EZ start Question
This is kinda dumb..but i was just thinking about buying a t-maxx, and dont really want to spend 50 xtra dollers on a 7.2v battery and charger like it says i need. so i was wondering: i have had cheap radio shack cars in the past, and have 9.6 volt NICD batterys, and was wondering if they would work on an ez-start.
thanks
thanks

EZ start Question
I don't see the rest of your sentence but I'll take a stab at what I think your asking about.
You have some cheap cars from Radio Shack and are wondering if you can use the batteries from them in your EZ Start when you buy a TMaxx? If that is your question....then yes....you can use them as long as they are 7.2 volt and have the same tamiya connector as the EZ Start takes.

EZ start Question
You could use the 9.6 volt if when hitting the button you only hit it in short bursts, otherwise you will melt the commutator/brushes very quickly. the starter motors in all the traxxas e-z-start systems are low quality made....

Curious.....doesn't the EZ Start take a couple of seconds to light up the glow plug? And if so...then your suggestion of using the 9.6 volt battery would be close to causing damage?

EZ start Question
Good Point....I never use the glow plug starter on th ez start system...it never worked very well so I used a hot shot....But if I am not mistaken. the glow plug only uses 1.2 /1.5 volts so the 9.6 volts are not all going to the glow plug as well as the full 7.2 volts don't make it to the glow plug either. The starter box has a ballast/capacitor built in to it, therefore reducing the voltage current being applied to the glowplug.

Yes I understand the voltage to the glow plug. My reasoning is....that if it takes a couple of seconds to ignite the glow plug....then the amount of time your sending voltage to the starter motor is going to be possbily long enough to cause damage by the time the engine starts?

EZ start Question
Hello,my 7.2 volt pack was dead so at the time i used a 8.4 to start my t-maxx. now the com has a bad spot on it.i would just use the 7.2 pack to be safe.radio shack has cheap 7.2 packs and charger combos. 987982,i have two used 1400mah batterys and a new 5 hour slow charger.if you want them i will give them to you.e mail me your address and i will send them by ups for free.just to help out a fellow t-maxx owner.
