Default biggest motor ina t-max without case mods

What is the biggest motor you can put in a t-max without modding the case . I saw someone here put a .21 in but it was modded. It also had the exuast out the side instead of out the bottom hole(which I wanted to use the exaust hole). I dont know alot about rc engines so I just wanted some advice
Thanks

Traxxas is coming out with a conversion kit for their TRX 2.5 motor to put in the old T-Maxx. With that motor(a hot .15) it'll do about 40 mph.

that sounds good but I was talking about a bigger engine all together. I know about the different sizes and am guessing that the bigger the size the more power you get

XTM has a .18 and SIRIO has one also, anything bigger and you will have to move the tranny forward if you want to use the stock chassis. Just buy the new 2.5 Tmaxx it will run with the low budget .21's easily.

Ok, problem is I already got a used tmaxx for $200. I guess I will just see how long I can make this engine run.

Are there different standards for enignes? I read somewhere that savages need a different type of engine or you need an adapter. Just wondering what type to look for (for the tmaxx) so when I get it I wont have any suprises while installing it

Thanks for the great info guys

Thats what I did.I bought a used Maxx for $225.A Megatech 16 is also a direct replacement.
I'm probably going to try an 18 next.
I'm back to running my TRX15 in it.It's an adaquete small block.
