I FINALLY got my engine working and drove the tmaxx around for a bit. I pulled it in to see if the heatsink was hot and once I started it again I couldnot get these gears to grip. They would ust slide against each other. I noticed one was worn but did not know if that was a problem.
Please help and if I am unclear just say and I will specify
Thanks

Where is the clutchbelt? I dont think the engine is loose cause I tried to jiggle it and couldnt and it seems to be bolted to the chasis well. I am pretty new to this but have messed with electric rc's and go karts b4.

okso I should adjust me engine until it fits the gear really well? Also what is suposed to slip? I mean what part is made to slip so that the engine can keep going even if the wheels are not moving? Kind of like a cupling on a car
Thanks again

On the end of the engine, the gear there has a clutch bell on it, and there is a clutch inside of it that will let the engine run and not move the truck, the spur also will move and not move the truck on a Tmaxx.
You want to move your engine closer to the big gear, but not all the way until its tight, just until you can just barely move the gears agains eachother, some put paper in between the gears and push them together then pull the paper out and you get the gear mesh.
Does all that make sense? The engine could have been tight before, just not adjusted right.

the clutch bell is what the spur gear meshes to...inside the clutch bell are clutch shoes that grab the bell when motor speeds up... like he said, make sure they are meshed good and roll freely...you don't want them tight together, but snug and smooth.

I really appreciate all the help. It is always frusterating starting from scratch on a hobby.
Where would the bolts be located that are needed to move the engine into the right place? underside of the carage? Also the two gears are pretty close and can move each other. Are the two gears suposed to grab each other sometimes and not other times? I dont know it the truck controls this for some reason and, like the clucth belt, grabs when reved. My problem is it never grabbed when I reved it. Funny thing though cause I was driving it fine and turned it off when trying to adjust my engine valuves and when I started it up again this happened.
Ahh

Did it come with instructions?
There will be 4 screws/bolts right under the engine that holds it in place, loosen them up and move the engine closer to the larger gear (spur).
They will be deeply meshed, and should move together at all times freely.

good thing I got a new one on the way. My town is small and has no hobby shop or Id go there for parts and advice.
So when the new one comes I should just make sure they are gripping just not to much. are they suposed to be able to slip in and out of each other, or not?

well if ur spur gear is out of mesh, then it will seem likethe clutch isnt working, but its just slipping on the spurgear...as far as the motor mount bolts, i dont know t-maxx, but i assume there are 2 on top and 2 on bottom of chassis( like the rc10gt), lossen up just enough to move gear into mesh, then roll it a little to see that it's not TOO tight, then keep cheking mesh as you tighten motor mount bolts. hope this helps.

When properly aligned you should be able to spin the clutch bell freely without any force and you should be able to hold on to the spur gear and try to spin the clutch bell, the clutch bell should not spin in either direction. the gears should mesh deeply but spin freely.

you have gotten a lot of good advice. but if you still have questions you can run a piece of paper between the gears. just standard note book paper is what i use and it will set what is called backlash. if you need you can find a lot of info at
www.rccaraction.com you will find pictures and discriptions to help you
good luck

Thanks to all that helped. I put in a new spur gear cause I did find a hobby shop here(in Waco and it opened 2 weeks ago and is not in the phon book). Well to make a long story short I put it in and it ate it up in about an hour. So now I have no spur gear and am gonna wait to get the metal one in the mail. Also the metal gear that is on the engine is a little lose so I need to tighten that up too
Thanks again
