Default Can a nitro run upside down?

Yeah, its a retarded question, but I have to prove the biggest noob ever that it WILL NOT run upside down unless you have a clunk. He says fumes will get into the engine from the tank due to the pressure from the pipe and make the engine run on FUMES! WTH????

i'd have to agree with you azn, unless your tank has a clunk like airplane tanks, you will only run as long as the fuel in the line.no running on fumes!

yeah, the Engine itself CAN run upside down just fine as long as it isn't overly rich. But for an RC application... It will only run until it uses up the fuel in the lines and filter, then it will die becuase it's not getting any fuel.

No, it won't run on fumes.....

That would be cool if it ran on fumes.... You'd never have to fuel it!

I did see a video on slapmafro where they have jumbo kong tires on an hpi hellfire. The tires are so big it runs upside down when it flips over. It was cool to watch, but I do not know what else they did to the truck. They also do not show how long it run upside down without running out of fuel.

And the less the throttle is being blipped the longer it will run also.

My Savage will run a long time upside down. I mounted a 2oz header tank on the inside of the rollbar. The header tank is from a heli and has a clunk.

It would be hard to run off fumes when gas puts off vapors...

um well it is possible to run upside down with a stock tank. The MGT tank has a duel pickup and it will run just as long upside down as it will right side up. I have tried it and it is a very handy thing to have

yes scotty, some may be equipped that way, but i don't think that was considered in the original question on this thread. they were talking about fumes, not whether or not the tank had a clunk or dual pick-ups.

It was a stock Hot Bodies LSP (but with a Picco .26 and the Kongs), but you're right, we managed to get it to run upside-down.....for about 10 seconds, max. No clunk means no fuel getting into the engine. The segments we showed in the video were short because it wouldn't run any longer. We tried a super-long fuel line, but it wouldn't run at all that way, right-side-up or upside-down. We had to get down to about a 12" fuel line for it to run.

Engines do run on "fumes," so to speak, but the fumes are created in the carb from mixing liquid fuel and air. You can't just send the fumes to the carb and expect it to run normally.

if there was enough fuel in the tank it would run upside down for a bit longer because the pick up is at the bottom of the tank, it would need to build some really high pressure to push the fuel thru into the lines if it was upside down because the pick up would now be at the top of the tank

A 2 stoke engine will run upside down forever because there is no oil like a car engine has in a oil pan. It makes its own oil from the fuel. Its just when you go upside with your car there is no more fuel supplying the motor because all of it goes away from the line and will only run whats in the line.

Most people like to have fuel filter and extra line so when they do flip they have plenty of time to flip it back over.

when my truck flips over I back off the throttle and hope it does not run out of fuel. If the truck is far I even run. I tell my wife my new hobby is good exercise.

yes it can. one because its a two stroke and as long as your getting gas to yuor engine you getting oil and on the MGT the gas tank has a some sort of way to keep gas still flowing to the engine.
