HELP - Steering Servo HELP Please
Please Help!
I just attempted to install a Hitec HS645MG servo into my Savage , and can not get it to work completely properly.
Here is what I've tried so far, please tell me anything that I might (or am) doing wrong:
1) Install servo into truck chassis.
2) Install servo saver onto servo using M2.5x10 screw (with loctite) with 2 washers (2 washers due to length of screw).
3) Finish final assembly of truck.
Here is the problem:
When I turn left, you hear the sound that servos make, and the tires turn left ....... when I let go, you hear the sound that servos make, and the tires only return part of the way to center..... If I then turn right, it will go all the way to the right, and when I let go, it will return all the way to center.
The other thing that I'm not sure of is the sound that the servo makes when I'm not doing anything at all. It kind of makes a steady hum/grunt. Should it make any sound at all when it is not "in use". Or should it be silent? Maybe due to the metal gears?
Please Help, I would sure like to be able to steer again.
thanx, later

HELP - Steering Servo HELP Please
I'm not sure what the torque is on the servo that you have....but a guess that I have is that when your running that rig the servo will handle the steering just fine.
Now...as for the humming noise that your hearing....that is the sound a servo makes when it is binding.....and there is a load on it causing it to hum. You can try bending your metal linkage going from the servo to where it's connected and see if that fixes the binding. Also....be sure that when you set up the servo....that your radio settings are set at neutral and that your linkage is also set while the radio is turned on. Once the servo is in the neutral position...and the radio settings are also....then go ahead and lock down the linkage and test the servo action again. If you hear the humming still....you'll need to play with the bend in the linkage until you have it just right.
Good Luck!

The torque settings on the servo is:
106.93 oz-in @ 4.8V
I'm running it at 6V, so I would imagine that it would be about 133.66 oz-in. (106.93 / 4.8 = 22.277) (22.277 x 6 = 133.66)
Features:
Three metal gears, Metal plasic 1st gear, Dual ball bearings, Four adjustable splined horns.
I'm not sure what you mean about "bending a linkage"......
LANDSHARK .... Take a picture of the stearing servo (while it's on the truck), so everyone can see what it looks like. And is your HS945MG doing any of this? thanks.

It looks like more than enough torque to me!
If the linkage is not straight....from point A to point B....and it is causing binding....the hum that you hear in the servo...then you'll need to adjust it....or possibly add a small bend to it so it will stop binding. It's all in the adjustment that makes it work without binding.

if there is some resistance, the servo will hum.
for example, the truck is on fround ,and not moving at all.
you apply full left, the wheels will turn to left, but not the way
to left. servo will hum, then you lift the front of the truck so the
wheel can turn all the way to left. after that the humming is gone.
another example, lift the front of the truck, apply full left steering,
and hold it, try to use your hand to turn the wheel to right, the
servo will hum ,and you can feel the resistance.
always test the steering with the front wheels lifted.

center the wheels before installing the servo saver.
also center the steering adjustment knob on the transmitter,
you need to turn on the receiver and transmitter when centering
the knob

LandShark, I wanded you to take a picture of the underneath of the truck... like if the truck was on it's roof.
Also, all of what I mentioned in the 1st post was with the tires in the air.
Landshark, does your HS945MG hum?

HELP - Steering Servo HELP Please
it hums if the wheels are on ground
i just lift the front once, then put it down, it stops humming.
i couldnt take the picture because my center skid plate is
covering every thing. however, i will reinstall the servo saver,
and fix the shock later so i will be able to take some detail
pics.
