Default Spur Gear

I just bought my my new T-Maxx and the spur gear is gone, it does not even touch the engine gear.

I can remember hearing the gear "slip" but they said the sound and "jerkiness" was normal.

Why would this happen? Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Welcome to RCU. Sound like your gear mesh is set wrong. The spur and the clutch bell gear should be 80% to 85% engaged.

Is this easy to adjust? The Truck will not even move.

I know on my Duratrax Maximum MT(nitro)you just cut a srip of notebook paper, loosen the engine mounting bolts and put the paper between the clutch bell gear and spur gear and pushed them together as hard as you could while tighting the engine bolts back up. Matt

It can be difficult for a newbie, but all you have to do is loosen the motor so it will slide back and forth. Then put a piece of paper in between the clutch gear and the spur gear, slide the engine to the piece of paper and tighten the engine back down. Make sure the gears spin freely and are 80 to 85% engaged. Hope this helps, Jon

YOU DON'T WANT TO PUSH THEM TOGETHER AS HARD AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just to where it starts to crease the paper.

Thanks so much! This makes sense. I'll give it a try.

Should this have been done by the dealer that tuned the truck in the beginning?

Yes, if you can take it to your lhs and have them show you how to do it. That should save you from having to buy a spur gear.

Default RE: Spur Gear

I know this is an old thread, I am new, and new to nitro, I have a duratrax, overdrive st. I stripped my spur gear, I am guessing that possibly during shipping or poor assembly the spacing between the gears was not adequete, so I have purchased 2 small and 2 large spur gears so I can get back to playing and not fixing. Anyways, how do you install these things? also does anyone know of a forum or area dedicated to the overdrive st??
