Default Original Tmaxx

I am new here and i need an answer to my question. I have an original tmaxx with the .15 motor and was wondering if i could replace the a-arms with the 2.5-3.3 if i changed all of them out. Would i need to buy anything else?

I'm not saying TBJ is wrong but I thought that the 2.5/3.3 arms were longer and that half shafts and toe-links had to be replaced too.

Yes, you will need the longer tie-rods!

You're right, I completely forgot about that.

Misinformation on my part.

I have the original maxx that I converted to 2.5 widemaxx. It is definitely worth it because it handles so much better. I have yet to flip in a corner on pavement since the conversion. RPM also makes great parts that flex instead of break. The new (grey) bulks also seem to be a little better than the old black ones. I was breaking them on every bash session and now I have been through ten or so without any mishaps.

So are all the parts not compatible with the 2.5 or just some of the things like the supension. I have been looking for reinforced parts for my transmision but they are hard to find for the original tmaxx. Is the 2.5 tranny the same as the .15 or do i need to update that as well?

2.5 tranny is the same, aside from IIRC there's a screw/pin that goes through the primary shaft and an idler gear on the 2.5, and it's just a pin on the pro 15. it's been a looooong time since I've had either transmission apart, though.

I wouldn't worry about upgrading the tranny until you bolt in a more powerful engine...but when you do, I'd go with an OS 18CV-RX, get a Dynamite pipe for it, and hunt for a T-maxx 3.3 transmission from an ebay chop shop.

Haha funny you mention the upgraded engine because i already have that exact same one. So an upgrade would be wise for that engine because it is plenty fast for me.

yeah, if you've got an 18CV-R in there, that transmission is livin on borrowed time.

I dunno why people say the .18CVRX is a good engine, because I HATED mine.[:'(] It always overheated and never ran right. The crap philips scrues that they used on the backplate would loosen up all the time. [:'(]The OWB slipped like mad, even after cleaning it.[:'(] I sold it and bought a TRX 2.5R. Best thing I ever did.

don't know about the ch-rx
but i've got other os engines
and they are good motors

as for upgrading the tranny
why bother?
if it's working now
run with it
if/when it breaks
do the upgrade

that's how i approach rc's
and you'd be surprised
how few upgrades i
"have"
to make

I've had tons of OS small blocks, including the .18CV-R, and they've all been flawless mills.

I wish the .12CV-R was still in production...one would be in my XXXNT AD2 instead of the OS 12TR that's in there now.

If you have problems with an OS CV-R series engine and you like the TRX 2.5/2.5R/3.3, you've got serious, serious, serious problems inside your brain

ok just from this i can see a lot wrong, high temps mean you have an air leak, owb slip clean it, thread lock the back plate screws. and i agree with TBJ if you went back to a trx motor then something is really wrong with you.

I cleaned the OWB like 10 times in less than a gallon that I had it. I dunno. Maybe I got a lemon. The thing was just a POS. Yes, I sold it and bought a TRX. Call me crazy and stupid if you want, but I had much better luck with my TRX. Temps always stay under 250, awsome power for a little .15, starts right up every time, and uses nice allen head bolts. It is better built IMO.
