Monster GT 4.6 Engine
I just bought a new monster gt and broke the engine in correctly. Was running it 7-23-08 and the engine just stopped. I should also mention that the engine was just adjusted by the technician at the local hobby shop. I was running Wildcat 20% nitro-14% oil. Got back to the house and tore the engine apart and found that the connecting rod up by the wrist pin on the piston had completly snapped. The piston was siezed in the sleeve. I also had run the engine a few times since it was adjusted with the same fuel. There are no signs of heat damage inside the engine that I can see. I also forgot to mention that there is now a big hole in the block below the connecting rod. So does anybody have any guesses as to besides heat what could have caused this? Checked tempature of engine while running tonight and was hovering around 215-230.

either improper break in or a bad engine.
That is uncommon with this engine.
If its new send it back to associated and they should give you a new one.

The MGT thunder tiger is one of the toughest, long lasting , easy to tune engines you can get. So something like this is extremly uncommon. They are great engines for bashing. What break in procedure did you do? I would also go back to whoever tuned it because it may have run lean. I would call team associated. They have great service and will most likely send another engine.

Yeah, I have 9 gallons through mine, and HighlifeMT has over like 15 or something on the stock sleeve! We're both still pullin wheelies. I love this dang engine. You should get a replacement easily, though it may take a while. Ae always helps, but they're not as fast as say duratrax with hobbyservices...
You'll love the engine, it was just a stroke of bad luck. Sorry dude.

Thank you all for responding. I took the engine to the tech who adjusted it to look at it and he is pretty damn sure that it was a rod failure. There was still alot of oil inside the crank case. To who sent me the reply of he had nine gallons through his what fuel do you run?

RE: Monster GT 4.6 Engine
i wouldnt be concerned what other people are running for fuel.
It could very between, a lot of engines.
Just make sure you have a good high quality fuel, such as odonnel, blue thunder, ect and you should be fine.

I run o'donnell $20 RACE blend. IMPORTANT THAT IT"S RACE, NOT RTR.
I love it. 20% with 12% lube, but it's good lube so it does a good job with protection and the performance is top notch! Also, the guy with 14-15gal makes his own fuel, so yeah...
Fuel doesn't really cause engine failures so much unless your Traxxas Topfuel's oober 18% oil siezes up your sleeve and you crank it too much trying to fire and and bang! Bye bye con rod. That was a runon, but really, I just think it was a bad engine. Sorry again, that sucks. I just ordered a bad helicopter and it sucks seeing it sit in my garage...

I also have 9+ gallons on mine and its still makes great power and idles all day . I liked it so much I have another new TT.28 Pro ready to go in it when the original one finally does go .
Nice thing is this motor can be had for less than 90 bucks on Ebay ....
