Got a used Warhead Evo. Need some tips?
I just got a duratrax warhead evo. I got for free from my friend. He gave me the kwik pit starter and reciever. I was able to start the truck for a little but seems to have some problems. He said the tunnings all messed up with it. It needs a new front shock tower I already bought it just havent replaced it. Am also going to need a tie rod. Ive heard nothing but trash from this truck but screw it ima try and get her running again. I see that the screw in the steering servo is stripping it so ill need to replace a plastic looking rod thats on the steering servo also. Well anybody got any ideas that I can put on it? Am thinking of putting a different exhaust pipe any recommendations? Ill post pics of the truck in a bit Thanks RCU!

get it properly tuned up and fix all the broken things and have fun bashing! Don't spend $$$ on it, just have fun with what you have. Your wallet will thank you.

Go to www.duratrax.com and download the manual for the truck. Then in the manual are the carb stock settings. Set the carb back to factory settings and retune the engine. I have the truck and once you know the weak points it is a good truck. Does your truck have the metal spur gear or the plastic one. You want the metal spur gear and hardened clutch bell. Does the truck still have reverse. If it does you want to get rid of the reverse and put in the forward only shaft. The shaft for reverse is soft metal and it will wear quickly and slip. The steering horn will strip. I had a servo horn from a new servo and made a new one. I just cut it to the same length as the old one. I put a HT exhaust on my truck and it gave my engine more power. PM if you have any questions. Check my pictures in my models section.

Just found out that his son had the Warhead out in some loose dirt without the air filter. I seen the engine on but it kinda stalled and turned off? Think theres a chance the engines gone?

Defenitely is gone. Some dirt in the engine is like digging his grave. If your wallet alows it... change the engine.
Try to tune it first... but dont get frustrated with the hobby... you are already warned the engine got dirt in it.
Hey... go check the RTX forum too... you will find there some helpfull information. I think this new thread will come up asking the same questions in the near future. If you have any doubts jus ask or send me a PM.

Is there anyway I can see if the engine is gone before I buy a new engine? If it is gone what engines would be nice? Names and price range would be cool.

Also am sure the engine turns on but it probally stalls and stuff and it might be that the tunning is messed up and the engines not gone?

Just ditch the stock engine it really isn't worth messing with, it was built with a lot of flaws. Mine had way too many problems so i just gave up on it and ordered an axial .28 spec 1s. All i've heard is good things about axials so i would definitely recommend them.

Tear the engine down and clean it out. Clean all the parts off and look at the piston and sleeve for scoring. When you put he engine back together use after run on the crank and piston. Make note of the oil hole on the crank so when you put it back together so that the piston goes back in the same way. Look on youtube and there is a guy showing how to take apart a nitro engine. One way to check the piston and sleeve is to turn the engine over and it should get hard to turn at the top when it gets to TDC and then you will feel the engine snap back once the piston starts going down. Do all this with the glow plug in.
