Fail Safe
My fail safe saved my buggy from ridingi nto a creek today!
This is what I like to call "Cheap Insurance".
Its like having someone on the car hitting the brake when you lose control! Cant beat that!
If not this.. at least use a Throttle return spring!
My fail sfe is built into my RX so its easy

Fail Safe
I use a Venom Failsafe. Great product and even better customer service. I also have a Venom Temperature Monitor. It started acting funny on me, the VTM did, I think I broke the bulb at the end of the wire lead that actually takes the temp reading. Anyways I e-mailed them, they said to send it in. I did and they sent me a new one for free. Turned out the one they sent me was faulty also, just got a bad one I guess. Anyways I e-mailed them, and it came in the mail the next day. I did not even have to return the second one prior to getting the one I have now. It must have just been a string of bad luck. But like I said they are great, and they take care of their customers. I would suggest you buy one from Venom....

Fail Safe
i got mine with a 6v hump pack from www.badhorsie.com
I don't know if its a good one or a bad one being that it is the only one I have, but it seemed to work good when i go out of range or pickup interfearance.
It was $58 shipped for both hump pack and failsafe.

I use a Venom Failsafe in almost all the nitro vehicles, except a Futaba one in the Terra Crusher. You can find a VFS for as little as $27 on ebay, probably the best choice, and it's so small you can jam it anywhere (I put it ontop of steering servo in Maxx).
Throttle return spring, a good idea:

Yep
I have FS's on all of my trucks. I wouldn't run without them. I have about 5 Venoms. They all work flawlessly. I also just bought the new Ofna micro for my Titan; it seems OK too. I also bought 4 XTMs when they were on sale for $14.99...JUNK. 0 out of 4 worked, and in fact they would lose memory of the throttle position and go WOT (luckily, I found this out while bench testing).
It's a good thing that XTM customer service is decent...but still, I was NOT impressed.

Kuma - I see you own a tmaxx, is it the .25 ?
Going to be buying a MT shortly, narrowed the gap to the Terra Crusher with .18 and the tmaxx with .25 - would appreciate your ( and anyone else's ) view on these MT's.
( I fly rc aircraft by the way, had a Bullhead truck a few years ago)
Can the tmaxx accomodate a 5 cell 6volt nicad pack in the batt housing ,and is there space/position for a fail safe ?
Also, the steering servo on the tmaxx - is it heavy duty or standard ?
Checked out the tmaxx website -really great ! .Tamiya lacks in that department.
Many thanks
Frank

Why? Why? Why?
Why in the world would you limit yourself to those 2 trucks? The TC downright sucks unless you like going slow, or intend to do the .21 conversion. The Maxx is a 2.5 (.15), not .25... You'll find hugely varying opinions on this truck. I have quite a few trucks, and had a 2.5 Maxx briefly, and it did nothing for me. But, I'll leave it at that rather than open a can of worms.
I recommend that you consider the Savage, Dominator, and even X Factor before you settle on either the TC or Maxx.

Terra Crusher is a very sturdy and durable truck, I could care less how slow it is- and a .21+ can fit in it with little mods. I don't really like the T-Maxx much and want to get a Savage or something else soon.
I would've gotten the OFNA failsafe for the MBX buggy but I liked the Venom FS so I threw that in instead and I heard stuff about the OFNA failsafe anyways.

Nothing necessarily wrong with the Maxx, but there are a lot of choices now... I have/had a version 1 Maxx, 2.5 Maxx, TC, EK4, Blazer, TK, Mad Force, NQ, Savage, Titan, Pirate, Dom, and X Factor. The NQ just plain sucks, but past that, that Maxx's are my least favorite. I wasn't thrilled with the performance of the 2.5, and I was breaking parts just playing in my driveway. I sold it after about 3 weeks. To each their own though. Some people love the T, and Traxxas in general. I had some 4-Tecs as well, and I thought that they were junk too. Fast as hell, but not built to last. Again, that's just MY opinion.
