Broken Glow Plug In Engine
 

I've got a TRX 2.5 with some aftermarket head. I was tightening the glow plug with a socket wrench (engine head is too tall to use standard glow plug wrench) and I accidentally jerked over to the left and the hex part of the glow plug broke off from the threads. The threads are still in the engine so there is no opening I believe.






The only thing I can think of to get it out would be to remove the engine head, get a very clean rag, cut a hole just big enough for the glow plug to fit, and use some pliers to screw it out. Is that what I should do?

The plug should now be quite loose. I normally recommend a left handed drill bit , but you could use a regular bit from the bottom side.

Remove head and start drilling. Once thje bit grabs it should spin the plug right out. It really shouldn't be that tight , perhaps a bit of some sort will do it from the top side w/out removing the head? (screwdriver.torx,hex, easy-out)

A left handed bit from the top would be good, but a right handed bit from the bottom is best. You don't want to chance gettingany metal in the engine do you?

So I would just use a drill bit and it should catch? Any idea of what size?

Yep, use a size that "catches" the bit shouldn't do any drilling really. It should "catch" and spin out the threads. I would surely poke around in there with certain driver bits first to see if it comes out easily by hand. It may be just a bit tight "in the thread" , but since the flat gasket and surface is gone all the pressure is now off. The plug is no longer "tight".

 It gets "tight" by stretch between the threads and the flat gasket , you no longer have that "stretch"
