Savage SS - Wheelies

I have the savage SS with the 15T clutch bell and I still can't pull whhelies. Am I expecting to much or do I have a problem?

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

depends on where u run it cuz sometimes the tires needs a nice traction in order to pull it..my 8 port does it on asphalt and grass..and my stock bb21 does too on grass but its ported

How do you have your engine tuned, is it even broke in yet. My savage ss is getting in , possibly in a couple days and I am selling the stock engine and getting an xtm 24.7 pro. I havent seen anything yet that is better for the performance smoothness and most importantly PRICE.

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

It might take a gallon or so for the engine to get to peak performance like the 21BB. You could also try to put the 14t clutch bell on and see what happens.

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

how many tanks have you run through it?

i gotthe impression it would be no problem with the .25
my bud has a picco 26 and wheelies on demand.

as far as upgraded engines i have been hearing great things about the wasp 26.
wheelies on demand as well.

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

i dont own a MT
but if you really want to do wheelies
get your setup correct so you get traction (bite), or buy better than stock tyres

or the easy way
stick it in reverse first then slam it forwards. the reluctance of the mass of the truck to change direction will cause it to want wheelie itself.

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

You should be getting wheelies no problem with the .25. Go to savage-central.com those guys know the savage in and out.

Have you tried to tune the engine yet? If you are still at factory settings then you probable will not be able to pull a wheelie due to the setting being way too rich.

Stiffen those shocks as well.

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

If it was a Savage 21 I would totally agree with that but the SS should have the stiffer 6lb springs already. Then again that could still be a bit too soft.

that will break your reverse and seize the gears

See, if HPI would offer the SS kit with no radio or engine, you wouldn't be stuck with the doggy .25, and you'd already have the money to install that Picco .26 and then it would easily do wheelies!

Yup, I've got a Force .25 Savage which is just about the same as the S-25 and its an unbelievable wheelie machine. Just be patient and break it in properly. Theses big blocks really arent fully broken in until about a gallon of fuel. I've got a hair over a gllon on mine and its making more and more power every time I drive it. As it sits now it a full stock suspension with one 1/2 inch spacer on one shock in each corner, a 3 shoe mugen clutch and the stock 14 tooth bell, and I cant keep the front end down, I actually have to tune it a bit rich to keep it managable. Its also got a hotbodies pipe and a motorsavers air filter.

Avalanche is right! I takes a long long time to get this engine broke-in! I also have the Force .25 (which as stated is just about the same thing as HPI's seeing how Ofna makes it) and there was a big big difference in the power once it finally started to break-in! It went from being kind of slow (enough for me to take it off and put one of my other engines on it) but, when I read that it can take much longer then most engines to break-in I put it back on and it was worth it!!! I finished the break-in! Now it wheelies all the time, idles and runs great! Take your time it is a great engine once it is broke-in!
;)

I have a question thats a little off topic but its still about the Savage SS.My freind is buying one soon and hes going to let me to build it(I begged him).Anyway were the diffs already put together in the Savage SS?I'm going to add some parts to the SS to make it better while I'm building it and was just wondering if I am going to have to take the diffs apart.

ZipZap 09-12-2003 01:11 PM

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

The gearbox and both diff's come assembled.

They're easy to get apart. Mine are sitting disassembled right now while I wait for the parts to upgrade to 4 spiders. Took less than 30 minutes to get both totally disassembled and cleaned.

Parts are on the fedex truck today!

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

I have a Savage21 already with the 4 gear diff mod.I was just wondering if I had to tear the diff apart to do it to my freinds SS when he gets it.Looks like i'm going to have to take the tranny apart too just to make sure those little retainer screws are tight.Shouldn't take long to put together though.I've torn mine down to the diffs and put it back together in 6 hours so this should be pretty easy plus I don't have to clean it LOL!!!

ZipZap 09-12-2003 01:35 PM

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

The cleaning part is removing the existing grease from the diffs. Nitro cleaner makes it pretty easy.

Rex2342 09-12-2003 01:51 PM

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

Yeah I'm going to replace the grease with silicone oil.1000wt rear 3000wt front

ZIZI 09-12-2003 02:12 PM

RE: Savage SS - Wheelies

the reason your savage isnt popping wheelies is because of its massive shocks :D

All you have to do is tighten up the rear shocks and it will be poping wheelies all over the place!

Thanks
ZIZI
