Problems starting MT2
 

OK.....I have a MT2 that up to this point was running great. Now it will not start. Nitro was left in the tank/line over the Holidays (unknowing to me) and when I try to start it w/ the pull start it does not want to "catch" to turn the motor. It is like a yo-yo. When I put it on the starter box, it won't start, and a thick greasy substance comes out of the muffler...

I have tried new glow plugs, heater is charged, batteries work.........

SO.............Am I screwed or what? Any suggestions? This has me stumped. [:o][:o]

loosen the glow plug 4 complete turns. lay the truck on the side, and put the starter to it (not glo starter) or pull the pull start if it has one. do this for about 10-20 seonds, maybe more. lay the truck back properly, and tighten the glow plug again. now try starting the car.
haven't tied this but it works when the engine is flooded. don't quote me on this!!

How cold is it outside, and is the truck engine cold? I couldn't start my truck the other day, and the pullstart was doing the yo-yo thing. I took a hair drier to it for about fortyfive seconds and it started right up.The thick greasy substance is unburnt oil that has seeped out to the exaust tip. If that doesn't work, try tipping it upside down and pull the starter to get the fuel and extra oil out of the cylinder. Other than that, I will think on it and see if I can come up with anything else.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Mecky...I am trying to start it inside so the temp is not a problem (72 inside......38 outside)

I was wondering if I should take the engine apart and clean/rebuild it. I will try the suggestions when I get home tonight.

one other thing to check is the stud that holds the flywheel on the crank shaft. The clutch bell also screws in to the stud. I have had some problems lately with mine trying to come off. I stripped an aftermarket flywheel out with it, and it did it the other day and killed my first gear spur. So I am going to get a little loctite to fix that. The only reason I bring it up is because the engine wont pull start right if the flywheel is loose.
