a good .21 would be fine like a hyper 7 port or something;. you havent even drove the thing yet to see if the engine is good enough yet.. i sudgest you drive it first then if you dont like it get a bigger engine.

RE: BIg Block TNX

nah, I would definately go BB with all the aluminum... I would say Os Rg-x .21 (i think thats what it is) or a TZ .18 if they fit. Possibly one of the Sirio engines?

RE: BIg Block TNX

why dont you just try out the engine you have on now and see if it is powerfull enough? doesnt that make more sense?

oh, i think i get it. you want to get a better engine so that you can sell your current engine for more since it is brand new right? good thinking!!! lol.

RE: BIg Block TNX

well that engine from the looks of it isnt broken in, so what the point of breaking it in, trying it and then switching engines, i think no matter what he isnt going to get the results hes looking for with the stock engine, even tho the engine is very good.

and plus what you said, worth more since it hasnt been used.

RE: BIg Block TNX

I was thinking of making a 2nd TNX now since I am only a few parts short. Then I might race 1 in stock and 1 in modified class.

Hey, what fuel are you planning on using? I have a big block .21 (stock MGT engine) and it runs good in the 12lb truck...I have been using Blue Thunder 20% and now my engine is blue on the inside!

I'm trying to put the LRP Z.28R into the TNX, using the NEM conversion kit as Tnx_4_life suggested. But I haven't finished yet ...

The quality is pretty good. It's thicker than stock and should handle the power of the .28. Only two things doesn't fit perfectly when using the stock plastic braces. Here's a photo of it, my english isn't that good.

On the left there will be the battery-box, on the right it is the steering servo.

And I don't worry about the dirt. What I worry about is e.g. the transmission! :D

Well, I don't know, if it fits when using the NEM alu braces.
On the right I cut away a little bit of the plastic brace. But the battery box won't fit, I think I have to put it more to the outside. I hope, you understand what I mean ...

@ TNX_4_life: And what happened then? Let me guess: Diffs? Transmission? Drive shafts? Or all at once? :D I hope this will not happen to my TNX ... To avoid this, I try to build it bulletproof with the help of some guys here in Germany. But that will still take some time.

Id say the driveshafts will break before anything, the tranny is very tough, designed by Tamiya to take a beatin'! Search "tnx" on rcpics.net and near the lower-middle of the page you'll see pics of the tranny gears, As you'll see, it's very beafy!

I think so too. But what will happen, if the drive shafts are bulletproof? Then something else has to break. I'm gonna find it out ... :D

RE: BIg Block TNX

I am planning on ordering my TNX after Christmas from tower hobbies. The only upgrades that I am buying along with it is the Pro-line Powersokes. Are the drive shafts all plastic? The center drives and the diff to wheel drive shafts? Should I plan on getting some kind of aluminum cvd's? What will work? Should I be getting any other upgrades with it? I plan to just bash with the TNX never plan on racing anyone but my buddies. The only beef that I have at all with the TNX is that those awful looking wheels, those have got to go. After I put a few miles on the wheels and tires I think I will get some 40 series mashers and some nice looking wheels....Any suggestions?

ScMc 12-21-2004 11:44 PM

RE: BIg Block TNX

The stock engine is very powerful but all of the stock driveshafts hold up to its power very well, so with the stock engine, you will be fine. I would just pick up extras from Towerhobbies just in case. If you were going to go a .21-.28 route with your truck, a beefier drivetrain might be necessary depending on how you drive. As for the stock wheels, They aren't too ugly, the stock tires are a wee bit small though. Here is my truck with Pro-line Masher 40 series tires and 40 series velocity wheels...
