Anyone Own a Hellfire?

What's up guys...does anyone own an HPI Hellfire? Let me know either way...I've got my finger on the buy button. What I'm after is a stable offroad vehicle that will resist flipping (my savage flips easily) and flat BURN all 4 tires on a corner when I crack the throttle.

Any tips on upgrades, fixes, and trick outs for the Hellfire on this thread would be awesome :D

I have it, I like my LST2 better. The LST2 is a great racer. I already have a thread on here somewhere about my thought of the hellfire, just do a search. Biggest thing is the crap radio and steering servo, both need upgrading immediately, then some threaded shocks with aluminum cap would be nice.

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

Well, my Savage had a lame radio which I replaced immediately with a Spektrum Dx3 and all...so that's to be expected I guess.

Steering servo ay...hmmm...I thought it would have a good one to be boasting all that great turning and power in curves and all...so just upgrade that and you're golden (on the hellfire).

I keep hearing about this LST2 though like you say! Do you have a link to the one you would buy? Are there several versions of the LST2 or?

Thanks a million for the input.
ash

go for the lst2;)

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

Ok...WILL the LST2 burn all 4 tires at my command? Like I say, I'm looking for something that I can effectively vent frustration with and just RIPP the track up hehe. I see the LST2 is $649...if high cost means anything, sounds like my kinda truck (I knew I was getting in deep :D)

ashburg 02-28-2006 10:07 AM

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

Also...which truck is more STABLE on turns and won't flip on me like the Savage X??

GT Batman 02-28-2006 10:22 AM

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

both are stable in turns, LST2 never rools on me after putting on some Crime Fighters. The stockers might roll a but on ya. And they both rip all 4 on command. If you get the LST2, remember that the factory setting are SO rich that it won't even move when you first run it...so give it time and make sure you got a tune on it.

And yes, the HellFire stock servo is like $12 and strips without hitting anything.

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

.427 CCs??????????????? HOly Crap man! Am I reading that right?! So compared to an OS .30 or a collari .32 it's .1 bigger??

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

Ok, I know I'm off subject but I don't think you guys mind too much

To clarify the Losi LST2 motor question...it's not a .427:

"That is a marketing approach. a 427 engine(which is really only a 4.27cc engine) = a .26 engine, it is just metric instead of standard means of measurement. People like to purchase what comes with a larger # because they are not aware of the fact that it is the same. For example, which sounds better a 5.7 liter or a 357 cubic inch engine? People go with the 357 because it just sounds bigger even though they are the same engine"

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

I have both the Hellfire and the LST2.

I know this isn't much help but I LOVE them both.

As you may remember, I also got a Warhead so unless you get a lemon, either of these trucks will make you like the Warhead that much less.

Both of them scream right away.

I think the LST is more versatile in that it *seems* more suitable for bashing. It has reverse and 2 speeds.

The Hellfire comes in it's stock setup as a very low ride. As it says on the box, it's "Purpose Built" for racing. But of course this doesn't mean you can't bash with it.

IMO the more intimidating one of the 2 is the Hellfire. It has so much torque due to it's low grearing that it seems like it's gonna rip it's front tires right off. Looks VERY cool spitting gravels out of it's teeth!!
It'll also turn on a dime (provided you replace the crappy steering servo that comes with it.)

But there is also alot to like about the LST as well. It has a roto starter, a good FM radio, big cool tires, reverse and 2 speed transmission. (actually it has 4 with the additional High Low settings)

One last thing. With the exception of the Hellfire servo, neither of them has broken a thing through some pretty good flips and tumbles.

Either way you can't go wrong. Lemme know what you pick!

The OFNA Jammin Truggy I have ordered is a .28cu in = 4.6cc
and the new TRAXXAS
3.3
3.3 cubic centimeter = 0.201 378 355 cubic inch
This is cool

RE: Anyone Own a Hellfire?

Ok Buff...you just swayed me back to the Hellfire.

I've GOT a Spektrum DX3 Receiver (the 2nd, free one that came with the transmitter)...hellfire problem solved! Plus one Hellfire

I don't mind putting the best steering servo that money can buy into the Hellfire...problem solved! Plus one Hellfire

Sounds like the Hellfire RIPPS like I want it to...and handles like I want it to. Plus one Hellfire

I already own an HPI product, the Savage X, so there is probably a good bit of (minor) part interchangeability there...Plus one Hellfire

Don't Want, Don't NEED reverse...Minus 3 Losi! Plus one Hellfire

The hellfire is ~$150 more in price...but it includes the super duper servo and the radio I don't need.

Ok, I'm back at square one. Still not convinced either way.

Oh, Oh do you know what hearing about this LST2 means ash? My Phsychiatrist already calls me a ***** because of all the toys I have, but he does it jokingly......This month is the Jammin, but April, unless there's another big lottery scratch ticket...For those who don't know, I got a Hellfire and a SavageX in February and didn't get any grief from my wife. In fact, I never get any from her :)

The word is "obsessive, compulsive" (and add "nitro fuel burning buggy truggy truck wheelie walkin frEAK of an addict"). I have FOUND an outlet hehehe :D

Cool. Did you get any Firm release date? My RC store guy said the 1st week of March. From what I've been reading, I don't see much difference from the x1 CRT last years national champion.

Marc...you're talking about the Losi LST2 right?

My clear body should be here anyday now. I think it'll look good in my stars and stripes paint scheme like my Revo. I'll have a body painted for the "X" like that sooner or later too. The clear body comes with a wing too.

If you go to the SavageX forum you've seen this already:

since the Hellfire and SavageX are 2 channel trucks what do you guys think about this radio?
Same servos and everything $80 cheaper than the DX3 just 2 channels instead of 3? mmmmmmmmm

ash put a link to this part in the SavageX forum so I figured I'd pick one up and put it in my Hellfire.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXE963&P=K
I also put the receiver for my new Spektrum DX2 in
1. pulling the stuff out of the radio box
2. Battery, charge jack and cover
3. Cut hole in bottom of battery box
4. Shaved little guide off plug
5. Inserting plug into receptical (help to remember, always put "black to back")
6. In hole and screwed
7. Rubber cap to keep dirt out
8. Spektrum receiver installed
9. All closed in
10. Love that short antenna
11. Radio and Hellfire
12. Charging
