big bore shock setup on TNX - help!
 

just put on my new big bore shocks last night with 60wt oil and roughly 1/2 inch plastic spring compressors (don't know the actual name for those plastic c-ring looking things), but it seems as if i don't get adequate spring return after the shock is compressed. anyone else have big bores that could tell me how to set them up properly? as it stands, it doesn't seem like they will provide much cushion for big jumps, which bums me out because i thought they would be a good upgrade over the crappy stock ones....

what springs are you running? You may want to move to a stiffer spring. New Era Models had them when I purchased mine (neweramodels.com) I have big bores on my TNX that is now for sale on ebay. You may want to take a look at it on there. I have never had a problem with these shocks.

i'm running the red springs that came with the shocks. did you have to use the plastic c-ring spacers that were included, and what weight shock oil did you run? this is my first foray into nitro mt's, and i don't really know what the shocks are supposed to feel like. they just seem a little saggy...

You may want to try 40-45 wt oil instead of 60 or some stiffer springs. The plastic spacers are just for adjusting ride height.

thanks for the info. i was thinking the opposite in terms of the oil wt. lighter oil means better shock action? do you use the oil that came with the shocks? if not, what weight do you run?

My E-Maxx with batteries is actually heavier than my TNX. It has the red springs and 30 wt oil. It seems to work good with that set up, but that also has some shock mounting options and I have them mounted further out. If you plan on doing big air jumping, stay with the heavier shock oil and use heavier springs. That will help keep it from bottoming out. It all depends what you plan on doing with the truck. Ideally you don't want it running with the shocks fully extended. It should have some sag to it. My TNX has the powerstrokes with 30 wt oil I believe. I may try a little heavier oil in the rear shocks to keep the rear end from dropping so much when on the throttle.
