You definately want to get a two stage air filter, one grain of sand can kill your engine. You also may consider using silicone to seal the bottoms of the diff. housings, goto http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm and look at the FAQ forum for more tips and info. Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems running in the sand. You might not want to get the truck near the wet sand too much because of the salt in the water is very corrosive to some metal parts.

I do not agree. I think running a truck is sand is just about the worst thing you can do. Here is my reasoning. Sand itself, is extremely corrosive, especially with its tendencies to work itself into small moving parts. Running the truck on a beach will ensure you that the sand is going to grain up inside the truck. Risking your engine as well is a big issue with sand. One grain will cost you in that department. It's not like dirt or street or any other surface. Sand is brutal when it comes to metal and plastics. Just my opinion.

I think that it is fine to run your truck in the sand, only if you properly seal of your truck, just as WeirdKooky said.

I think that if you follow the right instructions then you should not have any problems. Yes sand is corrosive, only if it can get inside.
Many people run there trucks in sand and do not have any problems, I love to run it in the sand.

What is your experience with running a nitro in sand BIGDADEPUMP? Why do you think they make sand paddle tires? Running a good air filter is really all of the protection you need, how else will sand get into the engine? My nitro's have seen the worst and they still run great, they all require routine maintanence and care. Fine dirt is harder on your nitro than anything else because it can get through the filter easier and into bearings easier. Just my opinion.

Not to be too technicial here, but sand is abrasive not corrosive. The finer the dirt the more places it can go and act abrasive on parts, that's why you should clean your bearings once and a while. Sand seems like it would be worst because of its abundance but it is less likely to cause ill fate. The air filter is very critical and a two stage filter should be used in sand.

measure it out and make one out of aluminium. Aneal the aluminium to shape it, guess I'll try it this weekend. Have to head to the shop and build a few thing anyway (aluminium work stands for all the R/C cars and trucks.) Will post pics when I have access to a digi cam.

I live in Central FL, and all we have here is sand. My T-Maxx is over 4 yrs old, and if you clean it after you run it, use a good filter and oil (I use Bel-Ray) and don't use any kind of lubricants that will attract the sand (outside of tranny and gearboxes that is), it shouldn't be a problem. A skid to cover the bottom isn't a bad idea either, anythng to help keep the sand out. I also knock the loose sand off between runs. Hope this helps.

swing over to savage-central. they sell them in the SC shop and there are several good threads on home brewed center skids, including schematics on one or two.

Hey Shark,

Have you got paddles yet? I am thinking about just running them in the rear to keep more of the sand behind. I bet it will rooster something fearce.
I went with Panthers cause they got bigger scoops.

just a tip.

tear down the truck regularly and check for wear and clean it out.

sand sneeking into the wheel hub can give you a suprise later on if not caught soon enough.

I would try to seal up as much of the truck I could. maybe even as far as getting "boots" for the drive shafts and stuff (esp shocks) to keep the grit out. and shield the clutch bell. thats another area were a tiny bit of sand can make your life interesting real quick.
