Reverse module installed
 

I just installed the reverse module for my savage. and tested.

the truck is running great. i will not have to run to the truck

to pick it up after it hits a wall, or tree. the reverse module is

a must-buy for savage 21. and also a good chance to upgrade

the servos. that is what i did

1. buy a hitec-945mg servo for steering.

2. use original steering servo for throttle/brake

3. use original throttle/brake for the reverse module

there are too many tips for the whole installation. if you are

going to install reverse module too, make sure sending me an

e-mail and ask for tips, my e-mail address is in my signature. i

am very happy to help you.

I know i know, that truck is a bit expencive. (a bit = raping my ass to much) But think about it you could probly sit on that thing and drive it hehe, now that would be fun :)

Anyone still monitoring this forum? Just installed the reverse module in my Savage X. It went in smooth and there weren't any problems, until I tested it...it works fine for a couple of uses and then the linkage slips off the module lever. I reinstalled the linkage and it keeps happening. was thinking of just twisting some wire or something around the linkage to keep it together, but what is the real problem here? It slips off right at the bend in the linkage. Any help? Thanks

The bend in the wire should be on the servo horn, not the module lever... on the lever you should have a little collar with a setscrew, then some fuel tubing, then the module lever, more tubing, then another collar....

hmmm, why is that tubing so bunched up there? Its in reverse in that pic right? The servo horn shouldn't be at a 90 degree angle to the servo body in forward or reverse, it should be at about a 45 degree angle... if you have the servo horn on so that its in gear and the servo horn is at a 90 degree angle instead of 45, it could be putting stress on the linkage and making it slip out because it wants to move further than its able too move... Also, it looks like you may need to move the linkage (the one with the loop that moves the module lever) so that its more in the slot of the module linkage.... is it as far as it will go?

I left my digital camera at work. I'll upload some new photos tomorrow. I didn't realize when I took the picture above that it was in between gears. I got out the controller and cycled it back and forth and it seems to push the linkage against the driveshaft when fully open. The tubing is bunched up because it is so long and needs to be compressed to install the brass collar on the end. Seemed suspicious to me also, but I figured HPI knew what they were doing. Maybe if I trimmed a little off the tubing it wouldn't extend so far as to bend the shifter towards the driveshaft. I'll dig out my wife's camera and upload two pics in a few minutes. I put it in reverse in the 2nd pic, and then took a pic and then the servo moved just a little more(?) so I took a pic of that too. Quite a range of servo movement between pics 1 and 3. Thanks for looking

what radio are you using? If it has EPA, that should solve the problem, but if its stock, it doesn't have epa.... As for the tubing, yea I would definitely trim in. Its there to give the servo a little "wiggle room" in case the servo arm wants to move further than the linkage will allow... having it bunched like that compresses it and takes away that wiggle room. That could be the whole problem right there.... I would fix that first and see what happens... what is the distance from the outside of one collar to the outside of the other... it should be 26mm

I really appreciate you taking your time with this. I am very new to the sport. I bought a truck in November and now have 4 soon to be 5 and a plane and a boat. I guess you could say I got hit with the bug. Loving it. This savage is my baby though. I don't get to drive it much and haven't even wanted to mess with it after the 4 hour installation (it was my first time taking it apart). Even though I could continue to drive it in forward without any issues, I just lost interest for the last several weeks. If I get this worked out, i'm looking forward to the weekend. My wife is into it now too. Alright, so I'll trim the tubing and see what happens. I mention that I'm a Noob because I don't know what an EPA is. I bought an HPI TF-10 3 channel FM radio (with failsafe!) to operate the reverse module. It was a pull from a Baja 5 kit, so there is no documentation.

EPA= End point Adjustment. Your radio doesn't have it, dont worry though, it isnt nessisary to get it to work, would just make it easer... I still think (hope) the tubing may be the problem though.... What it does is set the max servo travel in each direction, so that the servo travels exactly as far as it needs to an no further. (the steering dual rate on your radio does its thing by adjusting the EPA in both directions of travel at the same time)

what plane and boat do you have?

Ahh.... the boat probably doesn't really count. It is something I bought off Woot.com that seemed pretty cool (I have yet to run it) and was so inexpensive that I thought it might be a good place to start to see if I was truly interested in boating. I still wish I'd bought it, but I didn't want to crash it, so I bought a Hobbico Flyzone Cessna 182 to learn on instead and have yet to fly it. Apparently I don't want to crash it either. Now I'm looking for a simulator. Can I spend a little more money on Radio Control please? I'm in the thousands since november from an initial $200 bucks to "see if I'd really enjoy it" Also, my wife walked in on me as I was about to order a heli the other day and I stopped myselflater she voiced her approval, but I had reconsidered, I mean I hadn't even flown my plane yet! Addicted much?
