Kill Your Engine?!?!?!?!?!?!
 

I know in the Traxxas Owners Manual they tell you to pinch off the gas line to shut off your truck, but once you do that it will be like running your engine lean and starve it for gas. I know you can either plug up the exhaust, or cover the air filter to kill the engine but what is the best way to shut off your truck?

if you have acsess try to turn it off at the flywheel, but either plugging the exaust or pinching the line are fine. you are'nt running the engine long enough to do damage to it the other way.

if pinching the line hurt the motor, they would'nt be suggesting it as standard procedure.

I always just plug up the exhaust. Dies in less than .5 seconds.

Plugging the exhaust floods the engine and can make it harder to start and more of a chance of hydro locking the engine. Pinching the fuel line is the way that is most recommended and is also used when tuning.

How accessible are your fuel lines with the body on? Mine are inaccessible. Also, when i kill my engine, it's usually because I'm working on something or i've had a problem (broken something) on the track. In those cases, I don't want to have to wait to take the body off (while on the track) or if i'm in the pits have to prime the fuel lines again to get it started. I've been plugging the exhaust for years now and have never had trouble starting or hydrolock. I can see the logic that would lead to these conclusions, but when the engine dies after less thatn .5 seconds, there's not a whole lot of fuel spitting into that piston chamber. This is one of those "to each his/her own" things.

Well when I first started with nitro I used to kill the engine that way, and it was always harder to start after years of learning and reading this is the best method for me.
I don't know what you are running but, routing fuel lines for access can't be that hard.

Ok, Ok...I admit you got me. I may try that out. but arent you afraid of snagging it that on something...say like a buggy that gets hung up under you?

That does seem a little risky, I've ran over something and broken a pipe mount before.. I guess all it would do is kill the engine if it gets hung up though....

I've also heard/read that plugging the pipe isn't good for it, therefor I don't do it that way... I have to take the body off to shut mine off too but it only takes a second if you have your body clips set up right... but, to each his own..

Just flip the car over and put your finger on the fly wheel and apply pressure...simple as that..

I haven't had any problems with it gettings caught on things. I guess if I ever drove it in a situation where it might I could hide it just a little under the body so that I could still pull the body away and turn it off without removing clips.
