Deisel?
Have you guys tried to convert your glow angines to deisel engines for you trucks?
Can it be done or is it only for the planes? I have a plane engine that I am going to try to convert to deisel. I just need to get my hands on some deisel, or try to find the ingridients to mix it myself. |
Deisel?
umm.... why?
|
Deisel?
glow fuel $20.00 a gallon
deisel $1.50 a gallon you do the math. any gas station should have diesel. or you can use kerosine.. or Jet-A fuel.. its all about the same thing (just diffrent refinements and purity.. IF that) |
Deisel?
Joe78586, give me more detail. i am deeply interested.
will it increase power? saving money is obvious |

Glow fuel $20 a gallon
Diesel fuel $1.50 New engine from not enough oil running through it $175 Did the math and sticking with nitro, $20 not bad for as much fun you have with it, If you can't afford the fuel get rid of the toys LOL |

The "diesel" engines don't run on diesel fuel. Go to the davis diesel website at http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.com/index.html
I have a couple of converted buggy engines and the fuel is no cheaper. Actually, at 12.95 a quart, it's the equivalent to $26 a gallon for glow fuel (you get about twice the run-time so I'm equating 2 quarts of diesel to 1 gallon of nitro). |

The deisel is more powerful than the glow on airplane engines and it lasts longer too. I think it should do the same with the truck engines too.
It is not regulatr truck deisel, it is ether, caster oil and scented lamp oil. You can look on this forum under Engines, Giant Engines & Fuel Talk,rc fuels and type in deisel fuel on the search at the bottom. |

Joe,
Here's something I posted yesterday that you might be interested in. If you search the FUEL forum or my name, you will find much info on diesel conversions and their operation. "I've converted two engines to diesel. One was a .10 car engine and the other a .40 airplane engine. I mixed my own fuel. It contained ether, castor oil, and yes kerosene. Be careful making your own fuel as ether is very EXPLOSIVE! The fuel contains about 40% either and 30% of oil and 30% kero or lamp oil. I hope you are very familiar with a standard glow (nitro) engine as a diesel has some tricky idiosyncrasies. Two of them is the correct compression and mixture to get the thing started. It can be quite frustrating. Another, Davis recommends that the engine being converted is well broken in as a glow engine. If you go to the FUEL forum, you will find more information on diesels." |

if it will insrease the performance, i will consider about converting
|
Deisel?
IT will increase low end..
but the top speed will remain the same. ITs also more fuel efficient and supposedly sounds better BUT.. it also WREAKS! that sheet smells!! According to a friend.."IF you get it on your skin.. it'll smell for a week"..lol -ram |

i am thinking about converting my savage engine to a diesel
engine. is it possible? |

Deisel?
I heard that if you use scented oil it won't smell that bad.
|
Deisel?
LOL.. scented diesel.. ROFLMAO!!!
Still diesel is a LOT better than gasoline.. I can actually stand diesel. sometimes even like it! lol Tell me something.. with real diesels.. trucks.. Why does the truck go thru this.. "cycle".. when its idling? Ya know what I mean? its like.. RRRUMMP...RRRUMP...RRRUMP.. smaller diesels idle more smoothly.. why is that? Thanks! -ram 02.11 05-077 |

If youre talking about a ford with a powerstroke making that noise, then i dont know why they do that, but if youre talking about a dodge with a cummins, then ive never heard them do it(mine doesent).
|
Deisel?
My dad has a F-450 and it doesnt do it, neither does his Dodge 3500. But there both a 2001 (F-450) and a 2000 (3500). Both of them idle smooth, and have tons of torque to spare.
|
Deisel?
ive got a diesel farm tractor and it makes that noise. but only when its idling really low.
|
Deisel?
i cant stand that smell of deisel even when im in a car and a bus is in front of me i gues i have a sensative nose or something cuz some things just bug me and give me headaches
|
Deisel?
I've heard large diesels do that. I always figured it was from a low idle or age.

RE: Deisel?
Its been a long time.
Like a week ago I recieved the diesel for my os .12 cv and I tryed it out. It took me 1 day to get it running because I was using to head shims without knowing. Next day I figured out the problem and got it running fairly fast( longer that glow thoe). Their is an amazing diference in the low end. It has more power than the trx 2.5! I am having problems with it over heating. Got to go[:@] I'll be back. |
RE: Deisel?
HAHA!
Cool. I bought a head for an OS RFB but I have yet to find an RFB! Normally people buy the right head for the motor but not me! I'm kinda out of the R/C Diesel scene for now but I'm looking into getting a REAL Diesel car :) VW Golf TDI or something like that. Torque to spare and mileage to go with it (45Mpg easy) Talk about a good package! Ram |
RE: Deisel?
what is the difference between diesel and glow. they work the same, 2-stroke operation, residual heat and the compression ignight the fuel. i dont see how they are different other than in fuel type.
|
RE: Deisel?
Ohhh.. BIG difference.
Diesel is oil.. Nitro is Alcohol Alcohol is MUCH more volatile. Since their "explosion rate" is MUCH high, this leads to very high Revolution rates. Diesels do not explode so fast. Most trucks REDLINE at about 2200-2300 RPM! On the contrary, they produce peak torque at a very low RPM rate. One deals torque, one deals HP.. thats the ultimate difference! So, do you want to pull or do you want to scream? Ram |
RE: Deisel?
ORIGINAL: BUGGIES_R_US One deals torque, one deals HP.. thats the ultimate difference! actually, horsepower is an equation of torque / rpm or something, maybe i have that mixed around. you can have torque or high rpms. it really depends. if you choose the wrong one, then that is what gearing is for;) |
RE: Deisel?
Yep good point.
HP= Power Applied over time. Gas engines provide increasing power as RPMS increase for obvious reasons. But they lack the "OOMPH" per stroke that diesels have. Glow engines kinda confuse this because they are a mixture of compression and spark/glow ignition. BTW.. Diesel engines (real ones) actually do have glow plugs that they use to start themselves if the temperature dips below a certain point! :) Ram |
