RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
I dont want to list all of the things I've bought, cus that would reach the bottom of this page and go on to the next[&:] But I have invested around $1800 into this whole hobby. Which incudes all parts, trucks and other stuff like fuel and plugs. You guys with nice jobs may not think that is much, but for a 16 year old, thats a lot;) 3/4 of that I have worked for, the rest is money from birthdays and stuff. Evey dollar that I have shelled out for the past 3 years, has gone towards nitro rc, nothing else like sneakers or anything, lol I need new clothes so bad but Id rather buy a new engine for my T-maxx instead of getting new sneakers:)

You just keep buying the rc cars to get that fix, its a rush opening up a box with a new rc vehicle. The wildest part is rc vehicles you paid over 400. for people won't even look when you go to sell them at like 300. and they are still brand new. The loss is very high. I'll probably keep mine rather then give them away, i'll let them collect dust and rust before I give them away. Live and learn, don't me wrong they are really cool and amazing machines, but my advice follow your heart. I could have bought a bike and just rode once in a while for what i have in my cars & trucks!!!!:D |

It's fun to see the enjoyment they get out of them. It won't be long until the next generation is old enough to start enjoying them too. After all, it does no one any good for them to collect dust and they've already given me a lot of fun so I figure I'll share it around. |

RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
so far me and my old man have spent about 5 grand aussie not including spares, fuel and batteries, and i'll be spending another 400 in 4 days ion my revo (few upgrades i'm after plus some new bearings), and in 4 weeks i am buying an LST2 with an STS D30M, dynomite engine brace and the such (probably gonna spend $1'500 on the LST2), in total so far i'd guess around 6k aussie, this year, soon to be around 8 if i have my way, which i will.

RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
exacly the reason i keep buying them, my kids are 3 and 6 and the three year old is learning how to drive them soon in a few years we will bash together. every time i take them out he is right there steering while i throttle it, soon he will be working on them and driving them and where has the time gone.

RE: the dreaded question, so how much?

RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
My father was building nitro powered planes back in the late 1950's and continued to build them untill he died. As a matter of fact there were two in progress on his work bench when he passed. I shudder to think of the money he spent (and lost/crashed) in his lifetime. I remember about 15 years ago he called me and told me about a plane that he had just finished and, on it's maiden flight, lost radio contact and he had to watch it fly away. He was proud of that plane though, he said it flew straight and true. Amazingly enough, two years later someone found it in a tree and returned it to him (he put his name and ph # in all his planes). It was not in very good cndition but he was able to salvage the engine and some of the electronics. Both of my brothers (and none of us is young anymore) play with nitro (and electric) rc's to this day and my nephews do too.
So I guess my point is that the cost of the hobby is pretty irrelivent when you consider the enjoyment and memories that it provides. I know I'll never remember my dad w/o remembering how very much he enjoyed this hobby. |
RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
I would be considered lower middle class, I make a little under 20 G a year, drive close to 90 mile round trip each day. The job is great most of the time, but when your dealing with persons with serious mental health issues and some with criminal issues it can be very stressful, more so because of the regulations we have to follow. I gotta admit I really enjoy working with the patients, ( i work in a state psychiatric hospital) Most are great people whom have been struck down by this horrible disease/illness. I gurantee people don't try to become mentally ill, and i gurantee its not a character flaw or weakness. Sorry about the preaching.
But getting to the point, of letting my rc's collect dust before selling them for next to nothing? 1. By selling them at a decent price, i'll be able to fund my next hobby. 2. Unless I would know the father was going to spend time helping the youg kid to learn how to tune the truck, I could nt do this.(several young kids in my community said they had duratrax rc trucks or buggies, they ran once and could not get them running, so they sit in a corner. These were st's or mts with the torque .12 or .15. As an adult it can be tricky tuning sometimes. 3. I d love to teach kids how to tune and work on rc trucks/cars, but everyone thinks the worse, they you might have alterier motives. I remember I took a kid under my supervision steelhead fishing, because his dad did not have as much interest as me and his son. We had great times fishing different streams/rivers, him learning to drive my car with a standard tranny. The kid turned out to be a fantastic fisherman, a great person and adult, and a awesome human being, society has to stop focusing on the worse. In general those are my reasons for not selling my rc 's for nothing etc. My moto is if you help someone you can really help them to be all they can be.:D |
RE: the dreaded question, so how much?
Twenty years of playing, six or seven serious racing, I don't even want to guess, but it's probably 20 grand, but I have a shelf full of trophies, and a lot of really fun memories, and a box full of parts, and broken cars and trucks that I can't justify buying parts for, or stand the thought of parting with.

If you are having trouble with a company then post something up in the general rc fourm in a new thread so more people can see it rather than bury it in just any odd thread. As for your troubles, the same can be said. Start a fresh thread instead of trying to hijack unrelated threads that others have started and you may get some constructive responses. |
