MGT 8.0 has a very small tank. Any tank upgrade available ?

Guys, i can not run my MGT 8.0 for more than 5 min. with a single tank.

Any tank upgrade available ?

Thanks.

RE: MGT 8.0 has a very small tank. Any tank upgrade available ?

your obviously runnin very rich then, as the .50 should get about 10 to 15 mins out of a tank of fuel.

Why? Well its true it is a larger displacement motor, BUT, it only revs about half the revs of a good 28 etc, so it uses, average about the same ammount of fuel as a good 28.

During break in u will go through fuel FAST, if your doin the rich breakin, i heat cylce my motors, so during break in i get between 10 to 20 mins anyway.

Once u tune the motor to peak, u will get about 15 mins runtime give or take

You wrong dude, i heard from other MGT 8.0 owners, average is 5-7 minutes per tank.

I get about 8 minutes with the stock .28 in my MGT while racing. Just playing around it may be up to 10. So 5-7 minutes under race conditions sounds about right for the 8.0. Ya its turning less rpm, but its still a big motor. It depends how you are driving it.

well i get an average of 15 mins bashing the crap out of my MGT with a mach 427 in it on a BMX track

yes the machs smaller .26, but it revs to around the 40k mark

The stock 8.0, which is a converted thunder tiger helicopter motor, only revs around the 22K mark

So basically take into mind the revs and the displacement, they should, be somewhat near each other in fuel consumption.

A mate in sydney gets 12 minutes out of his 8.0 at the moment, hes got about 2 gallons of fuel through it, so its loosened up a bit, once they loosen up they tend to use a little less fuel

5 minutes? WOW! I'll start break-in on mine soon, and find out how bad it really is. The MGT has TONS of room on there to mount pretty much any tank though. Try mounting an Ofna Titan tank on it, or an XTM 290cc tank.

12 minutes is pretty good out of that 8.0. I know what your saying about the less rpm using less fuel, but I also know my TNX with a .18 turns more rpm than the stock MGT .28 and gets almost twice the run time with the same size tank, so size makes a big difference. Especially considering most people don't run their engines at 40K rpm the entire time its running. Then again the stock .28 is a pig on fuel. My LRP .28 gets more run time on a tank than the stock .28. That would be nice to get more than 5 minutes out of the 8.0 though.

RE: MGT 8.0 has a very small tank. Any tank upgrade available ?

thats what im saying,

The mach turns higher RPM but is a smaller displacement motor

The 8.0 is a larger displacement motor but with less RPM

The 8.0 is twice displacement of the mach, yet the mach revs twice as hard as the 8.0, they basically even them selves out there.

Anyway, 12 minutes is bloody good, given the INSANE ammount of torque it has, and it has awesome top end to, even if not more than the old 4.6

The calculation it's not like 1+1=2 dude.

In another thread (don't remember which one) a professional mechanical engineer explained that even running a lot less RPMs, the 8.0 will drink considerable more fuel because of the larger displacement than a .28 or something like that.

I hope someone with the right knowledge will chime in and explain that again.

RE: MGT 8.0 has a very small tank. Any tank upgrade available ?

yes i know that, what im saying is there averaging about the same, not saying they run the same time.

But by judging by my mates 8.0, 12 mins is not bad for the 50, quite close to my runtimes with my mach 427.

Either way, yes the 8.0 will drink more fuel, but not as much as alot of people make it out to be.

Anyway, u can install a 2nd MGT tank for a total of 300cc of feul and connect them in series, thats 1 way of getting longer runtime

You can do the dual tank mod.

bigger engine needs more fuel it is just that simple. If we were hill climing then my .28 would use more fuel then the .50 but just kicking it around the .50 would use more fuel. I have a mach 427 and the lrp spec 3 love them both I think the mach can spin a little more then the lrp but the lrp will use more fuel. I bet that .50 in 32 degree weather would suck a tank in no time.

that def sucks... maybe youll be able to install a second tank to your mgt

That was exactly yesterday's condition here around Philadelphia, 32 degrees and that **** was sucking one tank each 5 minutes.

I really liked this picture, i hope we can do that in a MGT 8.0.

I was just running a few nights ago and my tanks last about 8min on a good tune I just don't do long runs anymore I cooked an engine once and thats all it takes for me.

Thanks for the idea, i think the Ofna Titan tank will be a hard fit because of the L shape, i think the XTM 290cc will be a lot easier.

I will try to fit 2 XTM 290cc, one each side.

Are there any cases/links to show proof of successful tank upgrades OTHER THAN the duel tank mod? Because being able to just put a larger tank in, seems much easier and reliable than putting two tanks in the truck, and risk air getting through with more piping and seals.

If anyone can point me to a link, or guide that can prove/show how this is done.

thanks
