RC Sled Pulling

Well we finally got our sled in and had our first event last night! Ran two diffrent calsses last night and have some results.

Revo 3.3 (x2) - stock with 40 series road rage's compleatly stock: full pull 38#

AE MGT 4.6 - compleatly stock, engine not tuned correctly: full pull 49.5#

HPI Hellfire - stock with center diff still in it, strut rear suspension, and 2lbs on the front of the truck: full pull 37#

XTM MT - second tank of fuel (not even broke in yet!!!) : pulled 30# half track (not my truck and it wasnt even close on tune)

We will be pulling again tonight and i am going to try and get some pictures this evening. The line up for this evening will include
5 - revo 2.5's
2 - revo 3.3's
1 - Tmax OS18tm
1 - Hpi Hellfire
1 - AE MGT 4.6 - should be tuned...
1 - XTM MT 4.6 - should be broken in...

The truck that i am running are one of the 3.3's and the MGT 4.6. I dont think anyone will be able to hang with the mgt but we will see...

why would you do a pull with a truck that is not broken in... That engine wont last long...

RE: RC Sled Pulling

Like i said....it wasnt my truck. I would not have pulled with it either, but it was his truck and that is the kindof person he is. He bought a rezo crashed it a couple of times and gave it away. Bought a thundercat 31 boat, the tiger drive went out the first time out and he threw it away, he bought a hell fire and didnt kike the suspension after running it for about a week and gave that away. Now in my opinion he will give the xtm away after tonight.

And as far as it beeting mt MGT it may, but i dont think so untill he has worn the tires down some. The have ridges around all the contact patches that will severly limit traction on our surface. but only time will tell.

My MGT has the new track record....59lbs Full Pull. I think i can get up to about 65 current configuration. The Revo 3.3 class has improved to 45lbs full pull and the revo 2.5r's were pulling 32lbs full pull.

Where's the challenge of pulling on a hard surface? My pan car could probably make a full pull on that platform. Real 1:1 pullers pull on a clay/dirt mix, RC should as well.:D

RE: RC Sled Pulling

well this is the second time i am typing this so it will be much shorter this time. We built the track out of wood with sand textured paint to give a gritty surface that is very long wearing that requires almost no maintenance. In south florida we have no clay so that option is out, and i wouldnt have built it with it anyways. That gets extreamly messy and requires ALOT of prep time between rounds, and is horible to pull on when it is wet. We pull at night and for over half of the year it rains every night at 4:30pm. That would kill almost all our pulling time. That is the reason the track is built off the ground. We have it hindges on the back side so we can lower the front and let the water run right off. 5 minutes with the leaf blower and we are ready to pull :D.

I would love to see what a pan car would do on our track....Feel free to con down and get hooked up.....Oh you will have to put a hitch on it though.

Why dont you put a cover over it, or build a top.

How much weight is in the sled? and how much can you add to the front of the truck?

As per our [link=http://brettthebull.tripod.com/nolimitrcofvirginia/id12.html]rules[/link]:
"Small block pulling trucks shall weigh no more then 15 pounds."
"Big Block pulling trucks shall weigh no more then 20 pounds."

As far as the weight in the sled goes, I don't remember exactly how much was in there. The post that hold's the weight is 10.5 lbs and everything else added up to about 50 lbs.

Ingen28 02-04-2008 09:05 AM

RE: RC Sled Pulling

The way we have established our rules thus far....Big blocks can weigh no more than 16lbs and small block no more than 13 lbs. We are trying th keep the weight of the trucks as low as possible to reduce the strain on the cluthes any amount that we can. Without some weight on the front though, we have no steering.

You're right. The pulling portion of our events is just now starting to get popular. Until recently, pulling wasn't much more than an exibition and we didn't pay much attention to the truck weights, etc. Now, with people coming out just for the pulling, we're actually keeping track and making sure everyone is within the rules. We also try to use the [link=http://www.nrctpa.org/]NR/CTPA[/link] rules as a guide.

RE: RC Sled Pulling

I have downloaded their rules and we have used them as a guidline for what we are doing. but we have way more nitro classes than what they have....just so that everyone is in a class that they could possibly win. We are having fun with it so far...it is a good break for the expensis of our other hobbies!$!$!$ We run pro level Mud drags and lots of off road mudding.

These particular sleds are [link=http://www.teammagicracing.com/page/page/3951643.htm]Challenger Sleds[/link] made by Gene Foust out of Florida. He's got two different sizes to choose from. He's even got a trade-in deal if you decide to upgrade! If you're serious about it, give him a call!

Funny that you posted that. Those are of Steve Tash down in Florida. He does a lot of pulling at [link=http://www.nolimitrcfl.com/videos.html]NLRCFL[/link] events! The video at the bottom of the link is a 186lb pull that he did a while back. The truth of the matter is, you can't compare pulling on carpet to pulling on dirt. You're not gonna get the same results.

Ingen28 02-04-2008 01:32 PM

RE: RC Sled Pulling

I have seen those videos before and thought they were pretty amazing. If you put those trucks on dirt they would prob bo more in the 60 to 70 pound rande....Which is still unbelivable! Even on our track their is no way that those pulls would be possible.....there just isnt that much traction availble, once we start to loose momentum then it is all over. We cant sit their and walk the trucks down the lane. I will get some videos of my trucks pulling on wednesday night.

One of the guys that ran @ Monster Jam with us, hooked his buggy up to the sled!

RE: RC Sled Pulling

Dirt and carpet are really nothing alike. I, myself, pull on carpet. My Big Rigs pull 100-120 LBS on carpet. The same rigs on dirt would be lucky to pull 50 LBS. I really perfer carpet. Carpet is all about torque and how much weight you can pull. One carpet class pulls 500+LBS regularly. Dirt needs much more wheelspeed, and is too fast with too little weight for my liking.
