MGT 8.0 engine question
I am trying to break in a new MGT 8.0 and it seems like I had to set it to Lean to get it to run. I am a new to RC car engines so I could be doing some thing wrong. Too start with I set the high speed 3 turns out and low speed 7 turns out. It was just pouring fuel out the exhaust when I tried to start it and fuel was was heading up the fuel line back to the tank from the exhaust. I started leaning it back on the high speed needle and to get it to run I ended up 3/4 turns out. Engine is running about 220 degrees and is blowing a lot of smoke and acts like I need to lean it some more. On the low speed screw it seems like 7 turns out is too much because the head of the screw is sticking out at least 1/8 or more from the carb but this might be normal just not used to that I guess. I have the low speed set at about 6 turns out and when you pinch the line it revs up and dies. I am just wondering if I could ruin something running it at this setting even though I have good temp and good smoke. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: MGT 8.0 engine question
Well when you pinch the line its suppose to die.
Try leaning the low speed needle. does it bog then die at the start if so lean it. |
RE: MGT 8.0 engine question
The books are incorrect about the factory settings. I called AE and they told me. They are as follows: 3 out on the HS, 4 1/2 out on the LS, and the mid-speed screw flush with the carb.

RE: MGT 8.0 engine question
I broke one in last week and it was the same thing. Had to lean it out just to keep it running. Now that it has some tanks through it it runs very strong. Break in was kind of a pain. Just hang in there. 220 sounds good for break in but from what I read and past Thunder tiger engines that I have had they like to run better on the hotter side. 260-270 it runs very strong. They have an extremly tight pinch from the factory and dont really wake up till about 1 gallon. If temps are good and you have good smoke then dont worry about anything else as long as it runs good.

RE: MGT 8.0 engine question
I have read that if you pinch the fuel line and the engine runs for 2-3 seconds, revs and dies that means you are fairly colse on the low speed setting. Is this correct or am I following bad directions? Thanks for the help.
