RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

dude, omg dude man thats sorry to here dude, i know how you feel, except in my case my truck was stolen.

anyways, you had the muggy so you pretty much had a lst2 except a few things such as reverse, 2speed, and high low gear.

i would get the savage man, i got both muggy and savage and my savage has taken some serious abuse that my muggy hasn't be able to, the 4.6 is a nice big block and easy to tune motor. the x 4.6 rtr does have a few bugs here or there but its the same with any new truck hence when the muggy came out it had its clutch problem... i love my savage. but if anything i would also look into the xl, it has a lot of fixed problems with the s 4.6, with the steal spur, roto start, better diff, 3 speed, etc...

one thing also to look at might be the new mgt 8.0, rcca just did a review on them and compared it ot the lst2 and it came out swinging, yes the lst2 is more out of the box race ready and takes very little to make it even better next to the mgt, but with the lst2 price and the mgt u would have some cash left over from the mgt.

but if i was you i would give the savage a try, and if you are up to it get the kit it will help your building skills its fun, and there's not a better felling then being able to look at what you built with your own hands, and you can save money by building it. all you need is a radio and 2 servo's

anyways if you want vids here these are some from my xss before and after the picco.

Savvy's can probably take a bit more of a beating with less hop ups (not sure) but LST's sure are the best flying 1/8th Nitro MT out there :D

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

I've gone for the LST2,the Savage is getting boring now and over here in the UK they're like *******s,everyone has one.The LST2 is quality and also well balanced in my opinion, the Savage will take a beating yeah and have plenty hop up potential on the aftermarket scene but are starting to look long in the tooth and the arrival of the XL proves that even more so.Its about time HPI brought out an all new MT as i'm sure they can come up with another world beater like the Savage was....

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

Man, don't say that, I just bought a Savage X! lol.

Anyway, in the US, it's kind of the opposite. EVERYONE (in my area) has either a T-Maxx or Revo.. not too many Savages at all.

Mr Terminator 06-04-2008 09:04 AM

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

Don't get me wrong dude, they're an awesome truck and do the job well, its just that HPI have no imagination when it comes to shell design for instance.I had a 4.6X and thought it great but it wasn't enough to keep my attention where as the CEN Genesis has managed to do that.I do however want another tuck around Sept/Oct and may go for a Traxass or a LST2,The Savage XL may have had a chance if it wern't too overpriced here in the UK and if the shell design would've caugght my eye a little more, other than that the Savage trucks are great if you just want a tough,no no nonsense basher....

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

that's a hard question [:o] I like both trucks damn!! I have to say Savage but both truck are that good.

HerrSavage 06-04-2008 12:26 PM

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

IMO the better truck is clearly the LST2 - by a long shot.. And yes - for bashing..

A long time ago I had a long thread comparing my experiences with and impressions of my LST2 and XSS.. I think back then - when they were both relatively new - the LST2 was emerging as the better truck.. Since then it has left the Savage in the dust, and is IMHHO a vastly superior truck..

This is my theory about the LST2: for bashing, you need the New Era roll-bar, the Dynamite engine brace, either the yellow or (even better) RC Raven dual-rate springs, then a spare set of A-arms.. I didn't mention RPM just cuz of expense.. You could always do that later..

Anyway, the key IMO are the roll-bar and the shocks. The roll-bar gives the chassis better overall stiffness, and IMO prevents things like chassis plates and side-rails from breaking - and probably other things like shock-towers, tanks, etc.. too. And the RC Raven springs are GREAT for big jumps - and I'm convinced are a big reason my shocks have lasted so long without breaking.. So, the point is, with those few parts, the LST2 is not only AS tough, but tougher, than a Savage.. Some people don't like to hear it, but I'm also convinced HPI has been using lower-grade plastic since the X-gen Savies came out.. I recently broke a front hub landing a .......................... wheelie... Yes, a wheelie.. Ive had lots of little minor dumb breakages on my XSS(2 upper A-arms, two turnbucles, 3 hubs, and several annoying rounded out eyelets on shocks and turnbuckles..) , that I never had on my 25 RTR.. Part of this is due to offset rims, but it's largely a quality issue IMO..

And then there's the driving.. The LST2 drives much better, so therefore you can bash much better.. Speed, handling, in-air control, quality, durability - in every case the LST2 is superior.. A bone stock LST2 is superior even to most highly modded Savs IMHO.. The only thing the Savage is better at is wheelying with the wheely-bar.

As far as comparing the LST2 and the Muggy, they only share the front and rear ends(Mug has shorter shocks..) pretty much.. They're totally different to drive.. The Muggy is a fun truck, but the LST2 has more gravitas... It hauls axx(2-speed makes acceleration totally different of course..), and is slick as hxxx in the handling dept too (I was always impressed just by the way LST2's looked handling.. Silky...) - for an MT.. Totally different to drive than a Muggy..

EDIT: ps - Oh yeah - you're comparing RTR's.. So then there's the radio too... ;)

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

all of u have awesome points, and thnx for everyone who read my other post about me getting ripped [:@] im going to my lhs tonight and it all depends on what he has hanging on the wall and how much money i feel like working off from my mom [&:] (best mom in world! will buy me a new truck since i got ripped but i have to pay her back which is fine) but if there is a savage xl there i think that is what ill be leaving with... but if not prob an lst2, and im droping a lrp.28 spec 3 in w/e i get and leaving the stock motor untouch for a back up motor :) im liking the lst2 cause of the radio, hump pack, and its proven... the savage 4.6 is also proven, but the new xl isnt yet, but hey i bought the muggy when it first came out and loved it so y not try something new right? :D ill post some pics either tonight or tomorrow of what i get :D

LST2 without even a moments doubt, man.

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

As has been stated in many, many threads, EITHER truck will suit your stated purposes just fine. Both trucks have devoted followers for a good reason.

I will say though, the Savage seems much easier to customize to an individual's tastes or needs...there's a million ways to build them, if you're into that.

you buy that new or used?

if used then get the polished pipe man for that lrp, it will rip. and is that the one from your muggy? and if it wad new why'd you take out the f4.6?

looks good tho man, looking forward to seeing some video from you.

Muggy250r 06-05-2008 05:20 PM

RE: savage x 4.6 vs lst2

i bought it brand new... yes, that is the lrp .28 spec 3 from my muggy, i took out the 4.6 to keep as a back up motor... maybe down the road ill get a better pipe, but i dont really need it, i cant keep the front end down as it is... and its about 75 degrees and humid as heck! im all sticky from just standing outside! my plans for the savage are: 1) hump pack 2) better servos 3) tires/rims 4) chevy c10 body! (another reason y i bought the savage) those are my plans as of now... if i break anything (hopfully wont) ill prob upgrade it :) man it feels great to have something big to mash around with... i was in the woods just running threw tall grass and running over logs(cant do wit muggy)... i loved it!!!!

here is a little video of the 2nd tank threw the truck... NOT the motor, the motor has about 10-15 tanks threw it so it is just broken it :D
