Best aluminium polish?
ok, im de-anodizing my revo 3.3 chassis as we speak, it has maybe 10 more min till done. i plan to polish it to a nice chrome finish. any advice?

RE: Best aluminium polish?
I think to get it chrome like, you need a polishing wheel and some compound for your dremel. Hand polishing will definitely make it look nice, but no where near what a rotary polisher or tool can do. I would recommend sanding it finer and finer and then clear coating it. That way the finish will hold up without the upkeep.

RE: Best aluminium polish?
that is a good idea. what grit should i start with, so i can slowly work up. lol, i took it out for about 1 min to look, and it started to oxidize. will the polish keep that off?

RE: Best aluminium polish?
Polishing and clear coating will keep the bare metal from oxidizing, yes. Go to your local auto parts store. They have the really fine grit sandpaper for wetsanding paint. Pick the finest and then step back 1-2 more grits. Don't get to abrasive or you will make more work for yourself.

RE: Best aluminium polish?
ok, how to keep it from oxidizing immediately after i pull it from the sollution?
|
RE: Best aluminium polish?
You can usually work with bare metal and get it painted or polished before oxidizing. Once you get whatever cleaner off that you are using to de-ano, you shouldn't see it oxidize quickly. When the ano is off and you thoroughly wash it, you shouldn't see it oxidize at all.

Nice job she looks great, but take that fuel tank off her and give her a good cleaning..

RE: Best aluminium polish?
Best all 'round metal polish I've ever found is Meguiars NXT All Metal Polish. Use it on my rod and it's good. A little goes a long way. Comes as a paste in a small tub.

I was able to get a mirror finish with sand paper and polish on a mag-lite flash light once. Like dale said, just go finer and finer on the paper. The polish I used was silvo all purpose. I was surprised by the results myself once the polishing was done.

RE: Best aluminium polish?
nice, i was using silvo, but i didn't have fine enough sandpaper. i may disassemble the revo and sand it all down with like 600 or something. but i will for sure take the tank off and clean it.
