RE: which one???

I would recommend a 1/10, it is easier to handle, and less heavier.

i have never heard good things about exceed, though i can't verify as i have never bough one. for $200 you can buy a used car one ebay, and the guys here can help you on what to look out for.

if you are going to get an exceed kit, i would say get the 8th scale... i've heard they put much more into their newer 8th scale kits and some of them actually have pretty good reviews on this and a few other forums... either way i'm sure you will find lots of help and good info here about whichever one you choose... good luck with it.

Skip all that bull, those companies have a bad rep or are not fully established in the hobby- Himoto/ Redcat/ Exceed/ and other no name brands...

Look into these monster trucks- the best you can buy:

Monster GT/ Revo/ Savage/ LST2- You get what you pay for in this hobby, be warned that cheap= often trash.

These threads usually turn into a bash-fest.

OP ignore the majority of these self-righteous "experts." Do the research on the products you're interested in and make your own conclusions. The majority of them never even owned those products.

im not bashing exceed, i just haven't heard great things about them. also, no hobby shop around here carries their parts. you can get a used 1/8 buggy pretty cheap on ebay or craigslist. theirs not much to go wrong on a buggy.

Mouse- there are good reasons why I discourage people from buying them.

1. Most of them are built cheap with low quality materials.
2. Parts availability SUCKS.
3. Good luck getting anything done at the lhs, they will laugh at you....

You are right, I haven't owned one and never will unless they become mainstream and start releasing good products with good parts support.

The guy that runs the LHS i spend the most money at calls Exceed/HiMoto/Redcat "internet cars", because that's the only way you can get them or their parts...

I would suggest picking a mainstream monster truck....Savage, LST2, Aftershock, something like that, Then hit CraigsList and Ebay and find a reasonable used one, preferably with a decent radio....Then using Ebay and your LHS, rebuild it with a few stock parts and appropriate upgrade parts into a fun RC truck....Just remember.....no hobby is cheap....if it takes you a while to save up $$$ for parts or upgrades....no problem....It'll make the finished truck worth that much more to you....

PS....Lots of so-called "upgrade" or hop-up parts are just shiny junk....Once you pick a truck, come back on here and ask what upgrades are good, and which are just to make the truck shiny....

RE: which one???

Just do your research into a reliable car don't just look at their top speed as if you end up getting something that breaks a lot then you may end up getting out of the hobby whereas if you spent a little more money then you will enjoy the hobby a lot.:D
I can't really suggest any cars because i live in the UK so i don't know the different cars that are available to you. All i can say is that Schumacher Havocs are extremely tough as mine has had some serious smashes and held up incredibly well. I am aware that Schumcher parts are hard to come by in the US so I wouldn't suggest that you buy one as a beginner.
Just look into a more proven company, you can find all the info you need in this forum so just have a little search round.
