Help, engine tooka bath!!!
 

I was driving my T-Maxx yesterday and I lost site of it for a moment. Next thing I knew it was in a creek. The engine finally died I think from H2O in the carb. It could have been that it was blocking the exhaust too but...at any rate, what is the best thing to do to protect the engine? I took the head off and put a ton of after run in the head and in the carb and cranked it for quite a while. Is that sufficient? Should I break down the entire thing?

WD= Water Displacement :)

your main concern should be water.
I would try running the engine.
The heat should evaporate any water and prevent rust.
Also. what about the electronics? You said nothing about that?
Thats prolly a bigger concern than the motor.

Thanks for the responses, I will be putting the wd40 in shortly. As for the electronics, everything is working fine. I don't know how but I'm getting a balloon for the receiver today.

Ok cool.

I skipped one thing though.

Remove your exhaust and make sure you dont have any crud in there.

Also clean out the carb aread. Dont wanna let any sediments or fine particles in.

Did you guys mean take out the plug and spray WD-40 inside them motor and inside the carb? :confused: I'm a NooB with a savage trying to learn all that I can.

first thing you SHOULD have done is fired up the engine.

if you ever dunk an engine run out the tank then fill the tank and run it again.

this will burn up all the water in the engine and any that was in the tank.

water wont hurt an engine immediatly but it will if left in there... it can rust the internals in as little as a day.

I'd be afraid to try to crank my engine if it was killed by water. If it's flooded (with water) you could do all kinds of damage. It won't rust in the time it takes to remove the engine so you can flush it out with WD-40. Make sure there isn't ANY crud in it before you crank it back up. Who knows how many thousands of times a grain of dirt will make it's way around your engine while you try to evaporate the water!

Plug the exhaust & carb with rags & take it completely out of the truck. Then blast the outside of the engine with alcohol, nitro cleaner, or carb cleaner (my fav but make sure it doesn't have anything in it that will eat plastic or rubber like Acetone or Xylene. I use Advance Auto Parts Carb & Choke Cleaner). Next remove the rags, glo plug & head. Don't spare the cleaner when you flush the inside. Inspect it for scratches & a bent connecting rod then WD-40 the inside real good then reassemble making sure you don't get any dirt inside of it. I always put some after run oil in it after cleaning. Good luck!
If you're mechanically inclined, remove the pull start & backplate BEING SURE to take the starting pin & pressure spring out so you don't lose them. They are in the bottom of the connecting rod. Be sure to locktite your screws as you reassemble! Good luck!

just open in up, get all the water out if any, clean it off and it should be fine. my MP crahsed into the river wihich is part salt water and it was fine after i cleaned it off.

yes wd-40 it. this will help. after all WD-40 means=water displacement on the 40th try. :D

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond and help me fix my carelessness. The verdict.....it's fine.
I ran 4 tanks through it tonight and it ran as good if not better than before the bath. I am still concerned a little about the temp. 260+ but no one seems to have a solid answer about that. I would like to lean it so it runs better but the temp gets to the 300 mark. I guess this is no good? If anyone has any suggestions about that I would appreciate it, otherwise, thanks again for all the input.

a friend of mine has a 2.5 maxx and he put a golden horizon cooling head on it and it dropped like 80 degrees in temp, not sure if its inyour budget but i think it was like 34 bucks, if the engine is okay maybe worth a try, Just my 2 cents

The head may drop because its just a poor conductor! The question is.. does it cool better!!

I dont believe ANYTHING can cause an 80 degree drop. that totally doesnt make sense.

I kind of figured that because its still just a regular air cooling system not like it has a fan to help cool the head
