Default Jato 3.3 is this worth fixing?

I Just picked up this Jato 3.3 at the flea market this weekend. I Only paid $20 for it But all I Received is what is in the pictures. I Would like to know if this RC Is worth fixing? It 4 sure has had some upgrades done to it. It Has a pull start on it. the pull start pulls fine and the engine sounds like it wants to start right up when you pull the pull start. It has a after market air filter on it. It Has a Integy 54T Metal spur gear. It also has a Spektrum SR3300T Receiver in it.. The bottom has some scratches but over all the Truck appears to only need a good cleaning and a remote and a few other things. I Would just like to know what others think on weather or not it is worth it to fix the Jato and get running again?? Thanks for any info and opinions....

That is in pretty rough shape, and it looks like the chassis is bent. If the engine has good compression, you could just buy another chassis and swap all the parts over.

i love threads like this . funny actually.

yeah, id slap in a 2.4ghz radio set up and,new glow plug / aircleaner and run it. tear it down clean it up ,inspect it then race it.

the motor alone is worth $20 to me,along with pipe, servo, and other parts. i woulda paid up to $55 for it even if the motor was locked up.

great find.

I Mean I Only paid $20 For it. My Friend said just the Spektrum Receiver is worth about $50. When I pull on the pull start it feels to have nice compression. I Was not sure if the chassis was bent on the rear or if it was like that from the factory. If it is bent it is very minor and You can get a brand new Jato 3.3 chassis on Feebay for $14 Shipped. I Am just not sure if it would be worth the time and money to get this thing running again. A New one in the box is around $400. Apparently these things are super fast when up and running...

Yeah, they are about $400 new, but resale for around $175 when in great condition. They are blindingly fast. m

The Frame does look slightly bent. I Found a Brand new Chassis on Feebay for $13 shipped. So that's no Big deal. I Should be able to get all the parts I need to get it going and make it look and run nicely for around $100-$120 at most. Then I Would have a nice ready to Run Jato 3.3. I am just not 100% sure if I am going to mess with it or not..

I would part the thing out and put it towards another complete, running one.  You could probably get close to $100 for it if you parted the thing out.  Give it a good cleaning by blasting it with nitro cleaner or brakel cleaner (remove the receiver) and blow it all off with compressed air while it is still wet.  I have been cleaning my RC's for years this way and you wouldn't believe how much cleaner they are afterwards.

I Have been looking at some parts for this on Feebay. I Can get a new remote and receiver and all the parts to make this one look and run like new for around $120 at most. Which is cheaper then what complete running ones are selling for with no upgrades on them. I Found a few used ones on Feebay that have recently sold for over $200. So I Have a Few of my Vintage RC's and parts up for sale. I May just buy the parts for this one. Clean it and get it up and running and just keep it for awhile not sure yet...

be sure to have a dirt shield on the right side else front tire dust will get in the engine clutch.

ThunderbirdJunkie would strip it, ebay a new chassis, bust out the simple green and a toothbrush and have that SOB looking new in about 4 or 5 hours and ready to sell on craigslist for "$250 obo". It's bind-n-drive for your Spektrum radio!!!!!!!!!11111111111111

Ahh, marketing[&:]

You really need to clean it up. You could make that think look brand new if you tear it apart again and throw all the plastic parts in the dishwasher, then scrub the bigger stuff with some simple green.

I Cleaned it up some, but I am not 100% sure if this thing even runs yet. I May take some of the parts off and clean it up a bit more. I am not 100% Sure what I am going to do with it yet...

I Will most likely end up fixing this Jato and get it up and running. If I Do I will most likely give it a very good cleaning. I Want to get some new rear tires for it. New battery and receiver covers. A New header. A remote and body for the truck. And whatever else this Jato may need. Then it should be ready to go.. I Would like to find a nice used spektrum remote to work with the receiver that is in the Jato. I am just not 100% on witch ones will work with it...

Spektrum makes pretty nice stuff... and you already have a $50 receiver.
