Default Official MODIFIED RC10GT thread

I know there is an official Rc10gt thread, Ive been through pages of it, It seems like alot has to do with new unmodified RC10gts. What Im looking for is a thread to share info On the "exotics" out there. built with materials like carbon fiber ,titanium, anodized and polished alunimum, Trucks with 1hp+ motors small blocks, big blocks ect ect. There are Hundreds of aftermarket parts available, Which can make the building budget hit $1000 rather quickly. It would be nice to share what works and what doesnt and how to keep these overpowered beasts under control, And a good place to show off some eyecandy.

Default RE: Official MODIFIED RC10GT thread

I figure Ill start with my project. This truck started as a stock Team RC10gt for years ago, The motor was an HPI .15 "cast head' While the power was adequate and the handling very good. I had to mess with it. I havent even started the motor for break in (hopefully tonight) So far the modified parts are on the truck
1) Epic .18 engine
2) MIP 4 in 1 clutch
3) RR steel Clutch and Spur gear
4) MIP Polished Stinger pipe
5)Polished Alunimum Shock tower
6) Motor saver? aircleaner
7)GPM theaded shocks
8)RPM receiverbox
9) polished Alunimum trans brace
Parts on hand but not installed
1) GPM blue alunimum trans case
2)RR steel diff gear
3) RR steel Idler gear
4) Mip heavyweight Flywheel (I think it might be to small for a starterbox Anybody know?)
Parts Im still waiting for
1) polished Alunimum front shock tower
Future parts
1) ?
I figure Ill "tweak with what I have so far. And add on as time goes by. I could use suggestions on front tire types I run on the grass and found the Proline Dirt Paw works well for the rear.

cool thread....I have a straight racer currently(hardly stock tho) and am getting tired of not being able to bash with it (too many set up changes and crashing for a track truck) so I have decided to build a big GT. I have so many extra parts that came with the car (best ebay deal ever) as well as a bunch left over from what I've added to it that If I get a chassis of ebay (20$) i'll have most of a gt all ready. No gonna get too exotic with it just buildin it strong, RPM arms and bumpers, Probobly Ti Shock towers, etc Gonna put some BIG tires on it, put the new O.S. .18 CV-R (bolts right in!!) in it and modify the old Bronco body for the T-max to fit on it. Then I will BASH. In the mean time here is a pic Of my highly modified racin GT.

rpm front bumper
lunsford titanium tie rods with captured ball ends all around
crescenzi front widening kit
factory team shocks with captured ball ends (metal pivot ball instead of plastic) and
factory team shock towers
custom front shock mounting
JR 4721 ultra torque steering servo
rpm reciever box with switch mounted in it
JR Z550 premium race servo on throttle
ofna throttle linkage
ofna alum. servo arm
custom carbon fiber throttle servo guard
OS .12 cvr w/AE torque pipe
crescenzi brake system
aluminum rear bulkhead and tranny brace
crescenzi tranny savers
rpm oversize rear hubs (1/2" OD bearings, a must have!)
MIP cvd's with B4 axle conversion (one shiney, one stock)
titanium hinge pins
2100 Mah 6v reciever pack
ceramic clutch bell bearings
JR XR3 transmitter w/ JR133 reciever
shock socks
atomik f150 body

I do a little wheeling and dealing on E-bay Which is the way I fund my hobbies, When I get bored of one thing Ill sell it and buy something new. What I found out there are alot of nice deals on used RC10gts, I almost sold mine about 3 years ago but couldnt get enough for it so it gathered dust for a few years. I guess now I got the bug on modifying it, You never know it might be for sale in the future, Right now this Epic motor is giving me grief, Its refusing to start and Im getting serious blisters.

Well here are some pictues of my GT. Mods? We have RPM a-arms all around, carbon-fiber front shock tower, graphite rear shock tower. Hitec Ultra Torque steering servo, tuned (stock) .15 OS, runs very fast, Dirt Hawgs on the rear, MIP CVDs, blue aluminum tranny brace. That's about it, thinking about what I should do next...

Here we have it taking a nap, then a look under the hood, then an action shot of it hunting.

Here is my RC10GT! Doesn't it look nice and clean? It doesn't look that way very often, so enjoy! It has:
RPM A-arms all the way around
Aluminum shock towers
Motor saver air filter
MIP CVDs
Titanium turnbuckles
RPM receiver box
Proline Dirt Paw rear tires
Proline Bow-tie T front tires

This truck is very reliable, fast, and fun. I have a new engine just waiting to be put in sitting in my room. Let me know what should be the next upgrade to this truck!

No Plastic here, I had some time so I completely rebuilt the entire tranny all with metal parts. Presently this car is becoming a rather expensive paperweight, I cannot get the Epic .18 motor to fire, Ive messed with the needle settings even used a starter box but wound up with a blistered middle finger and half a tank of nitro on my left arm. looks like a trip to the LHS. RC10gtguy ok Ill bite, That squirrel is either stuffed or very disciplined to pose for the camera.

lol. Yeah, I took this picture, and decided a squirrel running away would look pretty comical, so I stuck one in there

rays89, I had the most difficult time starting this engine for the first time....., much more so than any motor I have owned, big blocks included.. I mean tell me about you, but I have NEVER seen so much compression. My .27 BB didn't hold a candle. I had to call Trinity and you won't beleive what they told me.

In order for them to make a powerful motor that would really last, they made the fit VERY tight (blisters!) They were taking engines that people couldn't start and turning them in a drill press (with a rubber mesh over the crank, not me though) 3-6 seconds at a time for a total of 8-10 pulls (use afterrun oil before each). Well I didn't want to do all of that, and drill presses are slow so I got a 6mm yank-elim and removed the pullstart. I had actually cracked my one-way in the starter, but I'll get to why.... After making pulls like Trinity said with my Yank-elim and rechargable drill, I decided to start it with the Yank elim (my hand-starter/starter box wouldn't turn it over when it was new!) and guess what... The recommended factory settings are WAY too rich. After leaning out the top end by 1/8 to 1/4 turn (don't remember exactly) I finally got it to sputter to life. Then the plug died, after just one sputter. So a new plug and it fired up. It never got over 120F and ran out the tank in what I swear was under a minute! Massively rich. I leaned it out a tad and restarted after it cooled and got it up to 150F.

It was all downhill from there. I have run about 12 tanks and it is REALLY strong. It tosses my ST around. Even with Road Rage IIs and my rear suspension set VERY soft, as soft as I could really go, it still will flip over backwards once the temps pass 200F or so. It is cold-natured but by 200F it is getting strong. It revs so high sometimes it would sound lean but by tank 10 I had never gotten over 230F. For the last 2 tanks I had it set where I will pretty much keep it, 250F at the end of the tank and MAN IT IS STRONG.

If you have any more questions/problems and you think I may have some info you need, drop me a PM. Oh yeah, use a hairdryer to warm it up first, that made a big difference too.

Default RE: Official MODIFIED RC10GT thread

Frost thanks for the offer of assistance, Well today I finally was able to run a full tank through, I monitored the temp and it was going up to 250 at that time I would shut it off and let it cool down, I have it running as rich as I can without it stalling or flooding. The amount of turns on the needle valves Im not sure. I usually had to leave the glow ignitor on or it would stall. I found out the problems I had, The stinger piper while I like it, has a design problem, the way the manifold is designed unburned fuel would accumulate in the "elbow" and would go back through the manifold and flood the engine out, I also noticed my fuel line was too short, as soon as I filled it up with nitro the fuel would immediatly go straight to the carb and instanty flood it out. So far the cost of starting this motor has been 2 glow plugs, 1 destroyrd pull starter and a hell of a blister on my middle finger. But as in the case of upgrades, I just won an auction for some more Alunimum parts on Ebay. I just need a few more parts and Im done well........well maybe
