HPI MT2 problems

i need some help getting my mt2 tuned. i've already broken it in but i am having problems tuning it.

if i set the throttle linkage to be 1mm open at neutral it closes when i brake killing the engine. i've followed the instructions in the manual to the letter but it will not stay running when i brake.

it seems to me that the throttle linkage should stay still (in the neutral position) when the brake linkage is engaged and moves back but because they move as one it pulls the throttle linkage back killing the engine.

i've only had the truck for a week and it is my first rc vehicle so i am very new to this. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

i like it so far - it looks cool and it's fast enough for me. it's my first rc.

the roto start works pretty good. i just need to get this darned thing tuned right so i can run it.

thanks

You dont set the linkage to be 1mm open you set the idle screw on the engine to open it 1mm. Its the tiny srcew that should be around the air intake. Screw it clockwise and it will increase your idle and screw it counterclockwise wil decrease it.

oh! so the throttle linkage should be at neutral and i set the tiny screw under the air intake uneil the card opening is at 1mm, correct?

i was adjusting the throttle linkage to get the 1mm opening. doh!

well, like i said, i'm new. that's why i'm on here - learning stuff every day.

thanks for the help nitro guy

wait, now that i think about it - the instructions tell you to first adjust the carb to 1 mm with the throttle linkage, not the idle screw..

Kool...o and what do you mean by fast enough for me?...does that mean its slow or its fast?..im a newbe too...im just wandering - its fast right? - have u taken it to full throttle yet?

RE: HPI MT2 problems

any more help out there?

i have another question about the carb and linkage set up - should the piece on top of the servo that the linkage for the brake and throttle alway move togethor?

i ask this because if you set the idle at neutral to have a 1 mm opening in the carb it will always close when you brake if the servo moves both arms back.

this is what is happening to mine. it seems that when you brake the throttle linkage should stay at neutral instead of moving back which causes the carb to close and die.

thanks

you should brake first and then set the idle screw to 1mm and keep pressing the brake button until u set it.

RE: HPI MT2 problems

so you are saying that i should have the brake pressed while setting the card to a 1 mm opening?

if so, wouldn't that then allow the carb to open even further once you let the brake go makign it idle too fast?

i had the same thing with my mt 1, set the carb first to 1mm then set the servo linkage, it may take a little time to get it right.

set it to 1mm while it is in neutral right? the problem then occurs when you hit the brake it pulls the carb closed.

well if ur having a very RUFFFF time doing it just take it to the store u bought it from and let them do it or any rc store near by u.

RE: HPI MT2 problems

can anyone answer this?

what keeps the carb open when you brake? my servo pulls the throttle linkage back when you brake which closes the card killing the engine. if you open the carb more so it remains open when you brake then it is too open (idles too fast) when you let go of the brake (neutral)

should the throttle linkage be pulled back when you brake? i don't see any way around it.

RE: HPI MT2 problems

At no throttle OR breaking, the opening should be 1mm. That means you have to use the physical screw on the carb to set it open. This is what you need to do.

RE: HPI MT2 problems

ragin_cajuns,

I was a newbie at rc cars too then i found out how to tune my evo (T-15 engine same engine in the MT2) i had the same problem as u have and was frustrated for 4-5 days. then i went on the nitro onroad forum and started asking like crazy, finally got it. The following instructions r just a reference to get ur truck working properly, throttle, break, etc. Just have ur low speed needle flush with the carb body. Hight speed needle 3 turns from closed. (the little black screw under the air filter) turn it clock wise as far as u can then using ur transmitter, put on the breaks. start turning that little black screw counterclock untill theres a 1mm gap(remember to have ur breaks on when adjusting this). and something the manual doesnt tell u, look at ur truck facing it, theres a brass nut that is on the RIGHT of the carb that's part of the throttle linkage, tighten that nut real good. just set your truck the way i explained and run it back and forth and tune to ur preference. there are some more little things u need to adjust but i dont feel like typing it out right now, just send me a private message with ur email or aim sn and i'll tell u step by step, adjusting the trim for throttle, etc. i know how u feel, the manual doesnt tell u anything that a newbie needs to know.

Hey Rajin_Cajun,
have you sorted out this issue as yet??
I 've got a SNR...which i believe is based on the HPI MT...i had a similar problem...what I did was center the Throttle trim on the transmitter first the then put on the servo horn then before connectin the throttle linkage to the carb I adjusted the throttle arm(on the carb) so the ball is positioned in line with the linkage. ( if this causes the opening to be bigger than 1mm what i did at this point was to loosen the screw on the side of the throttle barrel and reposition the arm so that when at idle(neutral) there is a 1mm opening. remember to tighten the screw properly.once you done this connect the throttle and brake linkage and use the throttle trim on the transmitter to fine tune..lemme know if this helps out
