The "Bugs" have been worked out, ya just need to know the mods,

The first was the Rear axles breaking, this is pretty much not problem when you run the aluminum hexs, also there is a guy out here making aftermarket hardened axles for the Rc truck he says are break proof, there are two words you never hear together, the hardened axles with the alum hexs are what the everyone is running out here.

the second is the Diff rings wearing out or Grooving up quickily, this is a very easy fix, you just take a set of rc10gt diff rings and dreamal them out a little to fit the mst out drives.

Oh ya the rear hinge pin holder wear quickily too, the newer kits come with aluminum ones, problem solved.

Other than those three things Two of which are solved at the factory now, the truck is awesome, the best handling truck I ever hard, Way better than my GT and stronger than my xxx-nt.

R&D is being done on a gear diff. I can't wait.

RE: Official MST-1 Thread

dont you worry, my MST-1 pics are coming soon. As scale said, the new kits come with the better aluminum parts that were notorious for breaking. The GT diff ring mod is a simple $2.00 upgrade that makes a huge difference. Ratzas has a carbon fiber top deck that I installed and noticed it made the chassis much stiffer. Another good mod is to drill the shock pistons to either 1.5 or 1.6mm. I also retrofitted Losi orange springs in the front by opening up the coils to fit the holder. This truck definately kicks ass and takes names right up there if not above all the other trendy trucks. I am planning on getting a backup truck soon as well.

Im not sure if any of you have heard rumors of a new MST-1 diff, but I can assure you they are true. I was talking to the Mugen drivers at my local track today and was told they will have a new improved gear diff soon

One of the drivers at my track is sponsord by mugen and he told me that the gear diff is being tested and that it will be offered as a hop-up. In other words it prob want come in any of the new kits!

Guys,

I'm new to the offroad game, I just purchased a Mugen MST-1 real nice truck, I just don't know what type of .12 motor to put into it. should I use a slide carb or roto carb? is the motor a standared shaft or short shaft? do I use a standared .12 flywheel and clutch combo. I don't want to purchase a high priced motor maybe a O.S. or a Team Orion Wasp, can someone help me out with the specs. Thanks.

I am selling my ft gt so i can buy one of these. I should have it in a week or so. I am going to put my o.s. .12tr in it and it should be awesome. They handle so much better than the gt, and I actually think that they handle a little better than the losi.

Mine runs great. Best handling truck I have had for me. I will have to take some more pics as I now have a graphite 4mm chassis and a really nice body on it as well. Will take more pics as soon as I have a chance.

Any .12 side or rear exhaust standard threaded shaft motor will work. I've use both a cv-r and a mt12 in mine,, the mt12 has been my favorite st engine.

the stock MST clutch set up works great and the stock clutch shoes last a very long time, I recomend you stick to the stock set up, and take a couple loops off the spring.

Most guys I know prefer a rotory carb over the slide, but either will work. the kit comes with linkage and instructions to use either.

Good luck

As far as inexpensive .12s go, I swear by the CV-R.

Todays .12s are breaking the 1.5 hp barrier. I am waiting for the new batch to come out from OS, Orion, Peak etc. OS already has the .12 TZ coming out.

RE: Official MST-1 Thread

Does anyone know if I can use an associated flywheel and clutch assembly on the mst-1 without problems?

scale only 4 me 05-16-2005 09:58 PM

RE: Official MST-1 Thread

which one?
if you're pulling this off a gt you'll need a 17t bell, also the pull start and non pull start flywheels are different sizes, I don't have any AE parts any more to compare for ya. The stock mugen flywheel is 31mm dia.
You can bolt it up and see if it's the right off set to mesh with the spur correctly.

I'd suggest you spend the extra $50 and get the right parts, you'll need a new bell anyway

part# list sale price
L0703 flywheel: mst 15.99 $13.59
L0704 engine nut: mst 9.49 $8.07
L0705 clutch bell 17t: mst 13.99 $11.89
L0706 clutch shoe: mst 8.49 $7.22
L0707 clutch spring: mst 4.49 $3.82

I was going to try the non pull start setup for the gt. But I think it would be better to just get the mugen clutch assembly to save the hassle. Thanks alot for the help and the links.

RE: Official MST-1 Thread

since before, they said it takes a standard length crank, then no, since the GT uses a short crank.

TBJ,
I'm trying to remember, it been almost 2 years now

When I first got my mst, I took my CVR from my GT and installed it
It had the crank cut for the AE nut, it worked just fine with the mugen parts.

I believe the short shaft engine will work

I just got my mst-1 yesterday. It came with the aluminum front suspension block and the 2 degree rear carriers. It also came with the lunsford titanium turnbuckles. I took it to the track and put in all of my radio gear and my .12 tr in it. Believe it or not, the associated non pull flywheel and clutch assembly works awesome, it just barely fits. This truck is awesome, it handles so much better than my ft gt ever did. I am going to take it back to the track today to set it up a little better and hopefully it will have its first race this satarday.

RE: Official MST-1 Thread

Make sure you run the aluminum hexs on the axles too
it really strengthens the axles
enjoy

I had an odd issue with the clutch/pilot shaft nut. It broke it the other night
7 gallons worth of racing on it, I guess I got my monies worth out of it
I made the mistake on not having a spare spur,, missed the mains, o well
