Starter box?

Hey, I just took my Rustler to my local track to practice for the first time and I had a blast! I popped by battery box off like 3 times, I popped my left rear shock cap off (expected from the Traxxas shocks), and I broke my pull start. I also realized how helpful it will be to get a box start, as that's what I used the whole day (I used someone else's), so I need to get a starter box badly. What starter box do you guys suggest? Preferably one that either you or someone you know has had personal experience with so you know for a fact that it works for the Rustler. At the track, I used this guy's Ofna starter box, but I don't know what model it was.

I have an ofna...seriously, was the worst $80+ i spent. Not that it didnt do the job, i just hate lugging around those boxes.[&:]

I'd much rather haul a starter box around than have blisters on my fingers from the pull start and getting mad when the darn thing won't start my truck after 10 minutes of pulling. I'm definitely willing to pay the money for a starter box.

That, and when pull starts do break, they are a pain in the butt.

That is the one you will want to get. It is actually the same thing as the 1/10 OFNA box. It's just a different color and with a different sticker on it. If you follow the directions in this thread - http://globalservices.globalhobby.co...pic.php?t=5208 - you can get it with some batteries (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAFF0&P=M) for under 60 dollars shipped. That is what I did and I am very happy.

Is [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBN23&P=ML]this[/link] the same thing, just made by a different company? Also, can you move those alignment pegs to fit the Rustler? Do you know for a fact that it will work for the Rustler, 'cause I need one as soon as possible and I don't want to have to send it back to get a different one 'cuase it doesn't fit? I want to make sure it's going to work on the Rustler BEFORE I order it.

Well, i tune my engine so it starts up on the 3rd pull...and you must be doing something wrong or your engine sucks.[:'(] I go in the woods alot and i dont feel like lugging a 8lb box everywhere i go. The pullstart to me is more convienet(sp).

A starter box is better clearly...And why do you have to start an arguement about this? You post in every damn thread but every post just involves some stupid smart ass comment, i know when you read this you will reply with a post like "damn right im a smart ass and proud of it". Well youre an idiot, the guy wants a starter box then show him which one, HE knows if he wants a pull starter or a starter box so dont tell him not to get one. Your input in this thread never helped this guy with his starter box, then you have the nerve to say something must be wrong with him or his engine????? Just shut up, it will get someone like you farther in life. And btw getting your engine started on the 3rd pull is no great feat either, most people can get them started in 1 or 2, the rustler has a TRX 2.5 which is known to be finicky....maybe something is wrong with you?

HEAR HEAR r6racer2 !!!!! Love the reply! I myself don't have a starter box but read just to see what they are all about, am thinking of one. Myself, What's another 8lbs? when you carry a tackle box with you full of extra parts, sure beats walking out of those woods after you break something in ten minutes. be prepared and take it with you, if you can't handle 8lbs. , then go electric.

RE: Starter box?

Yep, I just found out for a fact that the OFNA and Duratrax starter boxes will fit a Rustler. (I looked it up at the Traxxas message boards). I would go for it. As for carrying around starter boxes, it isn't too much of a problem for most people. I usually start my truck up at my real car, then put it in the trunk if I decide to go out into the woods. I fuel as the truck is running so it never needs to be turned off and restarted again.

Didn't mean to start anything that time.....but ok....[:-]

And yea, 1, 2 pulls is nice, but the first 2 pulls i do is to get the fuel to shoot threw the tube...;) 3rd one starts it up.

I know Boxes are good for like racing and stuff, i just see the pull start as something more convient(sp), my ofna one works great.

so like OMGZ IM NOT STARTINGZ ANYTHINGZ O SNAPZ!!~1!~11`!!1one/!`1:eek:

RE: Starter box?

So, [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBN23&P=ML]this[/link] one does work for the Rustler for sure? Also, ICrashThings, I have a Fantom .12 engine, which is an awesome, fast, and expensive racing engine that pops wheelies all over the place and has a top speed around 50 mph (so it's tuned good), but it takes like 6 pulls just to prime it, then a couple more to get more gas in the engine when it doesn't start (or taking the glow plug out, turning the car upside down, and pulling the pullstart a few times to get all the gas out when it floods, then start all over again) , then about 3 more to start; it's a pain in the butt[:@]! I need a starter box because I intend on racing, and, just while practicing, I'd get flipped upside down and nobody could get to it in time and it would die (even though I was blipping the throttle). Then, I'd have to carry it over to my table, take the body off, prime it again, then try to start it with the pull start. I finally gave up and someone there let me use their starter box and I had no problems after that, except for a popped shock cap. A starter nox is a lot more convenient than a pull start. Also, go to a track and look around. How many people do you actually see with pull starts that aren't newbies? Then look at how many have starter boxes. Yeah, exactly, almost EVERYONE has starter boxes and say that pull starts suck and only cause problems and frustration.

Hey, pocketrocketsAA, with [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBN23&P=ML]this[/link] starter box and [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXL370&P=V]this[/link] battery, what charger should I get?

That looks like a good box/battery combo; it will work great for you.

Here's the charger you should get.

All I know is that some of my motors start right up easy, and still start when they are hot, and some of my motors are absolute nightmares to get running From my experience, a starter box, or drill type electric start is the only way to go. There is no way I'd want to go back to pull start!!!

If i was to get a starter box could you leave the Pull starter on?

I tend to walk away from my car while bashing and when i flip it would be nice to just pull start it rather than walk back to the car?

Yeah, you can, that's what I did at the track because I was tired of trying to pull start it so I used someone's starter box and it always started right up.

Hey, pocketrocketsAA, [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXARK6&P=V]this[/link] is the charger that Tower Hobbies says to get with that battery, so which do I get? I don't care about this one being like $2 more.

RE: Starter box?

Will that starter box also fit the RC10GT, 'cause I may be replacing my Rustler with one soon (if my parents will go for it, even though I have a job that will pay for it)?
