Engine Break In

i bought me a new Mach .15 the other day and i was wondering how many turns out from closed i should put it at when i break it in. should it be at a certain temp while breaking it in during the first 6 tanks?

i dont know about the temp but looks in the instructions for the engine, if it didnt come with instructions you should have about 2 1/2 turns out

no more than 220 degrees while breaking in, I believe the general settings are hsn 3 to 3-1/2 turns out from closed. if you go to the horizon hobby website there is a link to the pdf file with an engine parts diagram and tuning instructions under the mach .15 engine. hope this helps. Jon

thats right 2 1/2 dont touch the lsn dont start leaning it until about the 7th tank dont lean it any more than a half turn when you start to.

i usaully run about 10 tanks on 2 1/2 turns out and then i start to lean it, i just try to be safe;)

RE: Engine Break In

alright. i started to break it in at 3 turns from closed. but during the 2nd tank of fuel something happened.

i was drivin it around no more than 1/4 throttle. just puttin around. then all of a sudden, BAM! the car stops but the engine is still goin. i shut the engine off and run over and check it out. the clutch bell had blown up and the diff gear had a big bald spot in it. the hobby shop guy said that the spring had worn though the clutch bell and the RPM's made it blow up. So once i get my truck back from fixin, i'll be able to finish break in. it seems like all the bad stuff happens to me. :(

RE: Engine Break In

you mean the spring that retains the clutch shoes.

RG501 11-02-2004 07:29 PM

RE: Engine Break In

yeah, that spring.

RE: Engine Break In

ha thats interesting you dont here about that very often.

RE: Engine Break In

i know. the guy at the hobby shop said it was the first time he saw that.

RE: Engine Break In

you have a evader right.

RG501 11-02-2004 08:54 PM

RE: Engine Break In

yeah. is that what you have?

RE: Engine Break In

no iv got a tower st-15 i also fly rc planes i brought my st-15 out there one day and another guy had a evader we raced well mostly justed played around his beat me by about 5mph then the only upgrade i had in it then was bearings over bushings in the wheels i had six left in my duratrax bearing set since then i found out i had to replace bushings with bearings in tranny i rekked it before i replaced the bushings plastik shocks stripped and broke suspension arm came lose lost a dogbone ordered new dogbone set and aluminum shocks on the official st-15 thread joelacrane pionered in replacing the short stock suspension arms with rc10gt arms they just bolt right on but frost is still working on some driveshafts the stock ones are too short for the rc10 arms but i ordered some rc10 arms anyway ill just hold them of till we can figure out some kind of drive system but since the last time i ran it replaced bearings in tranny and added tuned pipe it comes stock with a crap muffler it should be able to keep up with a evader now.

as soon as i get my clutch bell fixed and my brother gets his pullstart, we can race. he has a nitro evader too.

FLFlyboy 11-02-2004 10:10 PM

RE: Engine Break In

yeah evaders are nice trucks i almost wish i had bought one of those the only think that makes the st-15 worth keeping is that you can get a 2-speed tranny for it does your brothers evader have the stock motor the 18.

RE: Engine Break In

no, he has a Duratrax .16 Torq for it. which engine is faster? mach .15 or Torq .16?

FLFlyboy 11-04-2004 09:24 PM

RE: Engine Break In

not sure duratrax is kind of weak well not weak more like standard im not very familyer with megatech engines but there probably more powerful than duratrax his is barly bigger so he might beat you in take off by the way i got my aliminum shocks and dogbones for my st-15 so for the first time i got to run it with full bearings and tuned pipe oh i also bought some new rear tires the stock ones went bald the first day i had it running real good i got some proline dirt works tires awsome tires any way with those mods it hauled ass for the first time i could do welies with it my front yard has a slope to it i gunned it went down the slope lost traction landed on the road at full throttle it poped up and scraped some screws on the bottom of the chassis and sparks flew it was sweet but anyway do you think that the stock 18 in the evader is more powerful that that torq 16 you said your brother had in his.
