Cool solution to STOP bottoming out.

1 Attachment(s)
I run soft springs and 35w shock oil. Its jumps perfect untill I get really big air. Even though I land on all 4 tires I still bottom out, which is bad because I run on pavement with wood jumps. So to fix this I had an idea. I dont know if this has been done for years cause I took a 8 year break in this hobby:D So no flaming if its old news.

Anyhow my digicam card reader is screwing up so I had to make a quick diagram to show what Im talking. I pressed my truck down all the way to the ground then raised it up 1/4 inch. Then I measured the legnth of the shock shaft still showing, which was a 1/2 inch. So I removed the spring and cut a piece of fuel tubing 1/2 inch long and slid it down the shaft. Now it acts as a dampner and doesnt allow the truck any closer to the ground than a 1/4 inch. I tested it today and it worked great. I had soft enough shocks to handle the small bumps and when I got HUGE air I landed without bottoming out.

Here is a genaric pic if you dont see what I mean.

it works OK, but if you push hard enough the fuel tubing will buckle up and not prevent it from completely bottoming out... but it does ALOT to help save things.

You must be talking about cutting the tubing longways to slide it on there without taking the end off the rod. Cause if you slide it down the rod without cutting the tube there is no way it would buckle!!!. Your truck would have to weigh like 30lbs. and be dropped off a 3-story building;)

nope, not cutting. give it a try with the shock off. i haven't measured the force it takes to buckle it but the tube will expand out in the center, kind of a donut shape, upon hard compression...

but, like I said that is actually quite nice to have it happen like that. the initial force to cause it to do that takes away alot of the energy of the landing, and it still offers more resistance when it buckls up.

i tried that a year ago, worked good. problem is, after awhile the tubing gives and breaks off. [:'(]

Yea i have beed doing this for awile now but when u want or need long travel on your shocks they get in the way but if your just jumping it is a very good way to prevent bottoming out but a little while ago i landed a jump and 1 of the fuel tubes came off of the shockes and it flipped the truck and recked a new body[>:] but this idea!!!

Check [link=http://www.rc10gthobby.com/forum/upload/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=257&s=3aba61bcda1cd52253daa 098318148c6]this[/link] out, MystRacing talks about the ways to keep body roll to a minimum, and to also keep your truck from bottoming out. It's a bit of a long read, and your brain is gona hurt after taking all a that in, least mine did... I swear that guy's a friggin genius.
