Engine idle speed....?
 

I jsut got my used RC10GT running for the first time last night and I'm stoked...It's a blast. I have a couple questions though. When it's on the starter box and I start it up, the idel seems pretty high (I'm just guessing though, this is my first nitro) and the wheels spin like crazy, although I can stop them with my hand...Is that normal? If not, what can I do to adjust that? Is that an idle or clutch issue? Also, when I push "up" on my trigger on the Tx, my truck just stops....I thought it was supposed to go into reverse, no? Thanks for any help.

You will have clutch problems if you keep stopping the wheels with your hand...

Uh...yeah. Thanks for all your help:eek: I was just making a point that they spin very lightly, almost as if they're not even engaged. If I put the truck on the ground, it does not move.

Do you know if it still has the stock clutch installed? The stock clutch doesn't have spring on it, so it will always drag. Wheels turning when they're off the ground (and even creeping forward with them on the ground) is pretty normal for it. I'd replace it with something like the MIP 4-n-1 clutch. It has a spring to keep the clutch from engaging at idle, and performs better anyway. It's just about the best $11 you can put into your GT.

And no, the GT doesn't have reverse, up/forward trigger is just the brake. It's more motivation to keep from running in to things ;)

Perfect, thanks very much. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have some kind of f#%@d up clutch problem. What you're describing is exactly how mine acts, and I do believe it's the stock clutch, but I bought it used. Any easy way to tell?

yeah, ncgrunt hit it on the nail. my truck does the same thing if its not tuned well. I just have to play around with the idle and lowspeed needle sometimes to get it to idle with the wheels on the ground...

gotta get that MIP clutch, problem is, I just bought an RC18T and I'm spending all my money on that! :D

Well, try picking the GT up and shaking it up & down or back & forth, and see if you can hear a clicking coming from the clutch bell. The stock shoes will knock against the bell when you shake the truck, since nothing's holding them in place. You could also try taking the e-clip off of the clutch nut and see if you can slide the CB out enough to get a peek inside at the shoes (don't lose those spacers though!), the stock ones look like these: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LX3370&P=7

Otherwise you'd have to take the engine out to get the CB completely off.

Or, of course, you could always try contacting the guy you bought it from and seeing if he can tell you.

I have my control horn and my throtle linkage set to were i can use the trims to adjust the idle speed and of corse a fail safe
