Replace Tires
 

I have a set of original wheels and tires for an RC10GT RTR. What is the procedure to remove the old tires and put new tires on the rims? Can this be done or do I need to buy new rims. I have the CA glue and Pro-line ribbed 2.2 tires and inserts for the rims.

so u want to take to old rims off and put new ones on??

I was told this morning of several ways to remedy this problem. I just found out this morning, so I haven't had a chance to try it for myself.

1) You can put them in a pot of hot water (almost to the point of boiling the water). Let them sit a while and it is supposed to soften the glue.

2) You can put them in the oven on a low setting, and the heat is supposed to soften the glue.

3) This actually makes more sence to me. Put a little acetone in the bottom of a coffee can, and set something in the bottom so your tire will not touch the acetone. Put a lid on the can and let it sit until the glue softens. The fumes from the aceton will soften the glue.

Get a pot of boiling water, put the wheel in it, put a lid on the pot and let it boil for 15-20 min. Take it out and let it cool (unles you like burned hands) and you should be able to peel the tire back from the rim. If it won't come off, reboil it.

Clean any dried glue off of the rims, then follow these basic instructions for putting the new tires on: http://www.rcnitro.com/rn/articles/tires_1.asp

Just be sure to use rubbing alcohol to clean the bead of the tire before you put it on.. the things are completely covered in mold release agent.

get acetone, drenth the wheels in it(make them sit in it) and remove them after 10 minutes.

if the glue job is bad u could try to just pull the tire from the rim....i have seen some bad glue jobs from people i know and u could just pull the tire from teh rim so i would try that...other than that boil them

I would suggest boiling them for 20 mins., let them cool (not to long, should still be warm while doing so) pull tire off then if any access glue is stil on wheel, take a hobby knife and cut it off

Acetone is a pain to use (it does work though), I've found the boiling water won't debond all CA glue, but the oven method rocks. Full heat for as long as it takes does the job every time.

dont put them in the oven. ur rims will melt and it will warp them severely rendering them useless. i did this cause i did'nt want to keep the rims, just wanted the tires. the rims shrank and my tires came right off. but dont do it if u r going to save the rims.
