Engine Problem
I have my Rustler 2.5 stock engine. I cant get the thing to start up. I use the EZ start until I hear it is about to start. The it does and shots off 1in. and stalls. I richened it thinking lose of power mean too lean. DIDnt work. Next I leaned it. It now shots 5ft and stalls. What could be my problem. TThankks,

RE: Engine Problem
Is there gas in your engine, jeff, because i no u forget A LOT! haha
|
RE: Engine Problem
Yes it was full.
|
RE: Engine Problem
make it even more lean.....
|
RE: Engine Problem
I went ALL the way both lean and rich. Nothing worked. Anyone else.
|
RE: Engine Problem
did you try using the heat gun to heat it up first?
|
RE: Engine Problem
take teh POS easy start off and get a pullstart, much easier IMO and u dont need batteries for it

RE: Engine Problem
So its stalling after a few inches your saying? Are you letting idle and warm up for awhile first? Then after its running for a minute or so just barreelly give it the throttle. With my evader i get it started.. then after its started just as slowwwllyy as i can barreelly give it throttle.. then just keep baarreellly going til im 1/2 throttle, then i floor it to WOT and hold it there for a bit, brint it back at WOT.. and after that she's usually warmed up and ready to go.

RE: Engine Problem
O yea ill try to set the idle. And I cant warm it up it wont stay on long enough

RE: Engine Problem
Are your wheels spinning at neutral? Or when you get it to fire up? .check clutch springs.
Or Another reason is the clutchbell screw is screwed too tight in and yr truck stalls each time you stop.and you can't get the right idle and the motor is spinning your wheels but the brakes are on and thus the motor dies. |
RE: Engine Problem
Ok now I think it runs too lean. If I go lean at all it shots out pure Nitro. But I put it all the way rich, and it still seems too lean. I dont think any air could get in my engine to make it that way. Anybody e;se hav a suggestion.

RE: Engine Problem
Accually i was to rich. The exhaust was so thick it came out as pure nitro. Now it is lean, but it still wont start. Does a fuel line like of a diffent length make any difference

RE: Engine Problem
Have you tried a new glow plug?
|
RE: Engine Problem
yes

RE: Engine Problem
Could anyone send me pics of the trx 2.5s. I want pics so i can see ur idle setting and HSN. Thanks
|
RE: Engine Problem
Does it still have good compression? hot(last time it ran)? cold?
is there blockage in the fuel flow? do your bearings have too much resistance? possible air leak? good fuel? |
RE: Engine Problem
The engine has good compression. lat time a ran it the tepmature was normal. I do havE a feul filter that could block fuel but the engine was spittingb out pure feul so i think it gets enough. no clue about bearings. i havent found an air leakedge. and i run traxxas top fuel as regular for me.

It could be possible that your fuel went bad also. It would be good to try some fuel that you know works, maybe testing yours in another car, or have a friend with some fuel that he runs... |
RE: Engine Problem
Ok thanks. And I guess my engine has good compression at least cold. And i think hot also

RE: Engine Problem
I think it is your LSN. Try leaning it 1/8 turn at a time. It should start eventually... The idle gap should be set to about the width of a credit card. The 2.5 is a good engine when it gets running... let us know if you have any more probs.

RE: Engine Problem
Hmm, a similar thing happened to me. 1st i adjusted the throttle trim, gave it a little more throtle, and it worked well. in you case you might need less, but i found it worked good with more. The reason i did needed to fix it is because my air filter was blocked, i changed out my filter, started it up, and it just about shot off. It makes a big difference. Try the filtert first, then the trim. Hope that helps!
P.S. i took of my stock barrel filter(NEVST) and replaced it with the O.S 102, check it out, its awasome, it lets your engine breath for once. also, my filter didnt look that dirty, but you could defiantly tell the difference. |
RE: Engine Problem
Yea i just cleaned my filter and i checked the trim. It as normal. I have not checked the LSN. I hope that can fix the probelm. Thanks

RE: Engine Problem
Set it back to factory spec's. That should be a decent starting point.

RE: Engine Problem
Do these steps in order:
1. Reset needles on carb to four turns out from closed on the high-speed needle and flush with the inner barrel on the low-speed needle (when turning the needles, make sure not to turn it in too far and too hard because you will damage the o-rings) set the idle art opening to about one to 2 mm 2. make sure your glow ignitor is charged 3. make sure your glow plug glows 4. check to see that your head is on tight 5. try starting the engine 6. if it doesn't start, remove the air filter and try again After you've done all of this, tell us what happens and I will try to help you more if needed. |
