engine running backwards
Hi today i started my car and it started backwards i had to start it 4 or 5 times before it went the right way does anyone know why it did that

RE: engine running backwards
is it new? or just rebuilt.
what are you using to start it? |
RE: engine running backwards
wow i have never heard on a engine starting backwards lol[X(]

RE: engine running backwards
That is not something completely "against the rules." A two-stroke engine can easily run backwards, the only difference is the timing of the engine is retarded rather than advanced. This means that it will make virtually no power and as soon as you hit the gas it will die. It is more common in airplanes where they use a stick to flip the prop over. It is common practice then to flip the prop backwards rather than forwards because as the engine fires, it will usually kick it back in the other direction, the correct way.
I assume you are using a starter box because a one-way bearing in a pull start or rotostart would prevent this. When you start it, try holdin down on the box a little longer instead of a quick bump. That will help get a forward start more consistently. |
RE: engine running backwards
if its an ezstart maybe wires were backwards

The reason they dont put out much power is because the crank port or rotary valve is WAY off timing when engines are running backwards. |

Geez,
And some people complain they don't have a reverse on their nitro RC's and you , lucky man, have it full time... Duh !.... |

I believe MVVS makes an airplane engine the can run either standard or reverse direction. It features a two-piece crankcase where the front half (containing the bearings and carb) rotates about 90 degrees to correct the intake timing. |
RE: engine running backwards
It is a xtm x-cellerator and it has a pull start

doyab:
In my early days of Nitro RC, I put my one way bearing in wrong. The thing always started in reverse as they can do. Is your one way bearing in right? Since its the middle of summer, cold should not be a factor, but when trying to start them when they are really cold - the extra compression will sometimes kick them into reverse. My OS never has, but my HPI 18SS would regulary do it. Once the engine is warmed up, it would start and run fine. |
RE: engine running backwards
i tried tp start my buggies engine in reverse it started but then it kicked it self back the right way after a couple of wierd sputters.
