performance difference

just purchased a new os .12 cvr to replace the mach .15 in my xxxnt.

what can i expect?

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-26-2005 04:08 PM

RE: performance difference

a brutally reliable engine, roughly the same (maybe a LITTLE more) power, and wheelies on command:)

the CVR is a GREAT ST engine, just flat out great.

RE: performance difference

it says in the manual that there should be perfuse smoke during break in.

i have the high speed 5 turns out and i still cant get it to run "cool". it runs great and has AWESOME power, has some smoke, but for the amount of turns i have the high speed jet out, it should be falling on its face. no?

i dont want to burn the motor up!

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-26-2005 06:14 PM

RE: performance difference

i always ran 2.5 turns out on the HSN on my CVR's, and IIRC 2 turns out on the LSN.

RE: performance difference

i dunno, sumthin's goofy with my high speed needle.

what temp should i be at?

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-26-2005 06:24 PM

RE: performance difference

not sure, but just keep it between 200 and 250 during breakin.

after breakin, just keep it under 300.

RE: performance difference

hmm maybe i am in the ballpark.

i swivled the fuel fitting around on the carb to match where the old engine had it. is there something to match up on the fittings?

thanks for the help.

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-26-2005 06:29 PM

RE: performance difference

as long as you have it tight, you dont have anything to worry about...but 5 turns out on the HSN sounds WAY high unless they've changed the CVR's carb in the last 6 months.

RE: performance difference

well i should check something, the last tank i did the water drop test on the head, and it just boiled right off.

i would like to fatten it up, what should i check for?

the motor is brand new as of today, as well as fuel line.

thanks again!

RE: performance difference

just make it way richer, all carbies are diferent , the no. of turns out dont make a diference, the temperature of the engine does!
just richen i up until the water only JUST bubbles after 3-4 seconds and youll be alright. BTW the OS .12 CV-R is SWEEEET!

RE: performance difference

basically, my breakin with OS CVR's is 2.5 turns out on the HSN, 2 turns out on the LSN, run for a tank, let cool.
bring it in to 2 1/4 turns HSN, and run it a little harder...and so on and so forth.

I never temp my engines.

iceracer65 09-26-2005 07:08 PM

RE: performance difference

how far can i turn the HSN out before i have to worry about it falling out or having a vacume leak?

at these settings i will NEVER be able to run this thing in the winter.

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-26-2005 07:10 PM

RE: performance difference

just turn it back in to 3 turns out. hold on, lemme go play with one of my CVRs real quick

you have your HSN out too far:P go back to about 3 turns out;)

dannthenitroman 09-26-2005 07:14 PM

RE: performance difference

how many do u have?

RE: performance difference

ice, any luck?

iceracer65 09-27-2005 12:43 PM

RE: performance difference

the thing really runs great! just hotter than im used to. so much quieter, faster, and lighter than the mach...sweet!

i have plenty of smoke and its even putting some exhaust shmee on the left rear wheel.

now i have to go get a new spur gear:D

ThunderbirdJunkie 09-27-2005 01:08 PM

RE: performance difference

glad ya like the engine[8D] i love the little suckers:D

RE: performance difference

LOL ME TOO :)! hey what kind of gearing are you gona do? Love to hear what people do with there O.S :):):)

iceracer65 09-27-2005 04:23 PM

RE: performance difference

stock 51...that thing is perfect for what i do.

maybe if i start racing it, ill get a bunch of them.

dannthenitroman 09-27-2005 05:16 PM

RE: performance difference

i geared mine lower, but i have a rusty so the stock gearings kinda high and i can tell you the cv-r eats a trx2.5r, absolutely no competition. im running 25% when i race and only 5% bashing it so it proves what a versatile engine it is, other thing i like is that it only needs to be tuned once a week or so (unless i change %) and thats probably the best thing about them, oh, did i mention theyre hell fast!

RE: performance difference

Yah but you can never stop hearing those words...

... Oooo yah!
I have stock gearing on right now probally gona change it soon.

dannthenitroman 09-27-2005 06:39 PM

RE: performance difference

that coz they are fast, that coz they are fast, that coz they are fast, that coz they are fast.
LOL
