WHY?

My buddy converted his gt to a starter box went out and bought a cheapy starter box like 70 bucks. THe starter box ahs been used 20 times and never broke yet! good news :). Im thinking of converting my pull start rc10 gt to a starter box. Pros and cons people pros and cons lets hear the suggestions.

RE: WHY?

You don't need to 'convert' anything unless you need to change the flywheel. You can use a starter box on an engine that has a pull start installed.(just to clarify;))
WAY more pros than cons.
The only drawback that I see, is that you need a power supply, and you need to bring your truck over to the power supply to start.
It is so nice to start a truck on a box...you can do it with the body on easily...easy to prime by plugging stinger while starting...you can spin an engine longer for those stubborn warm restarts...

RC04, my starter box is cheaper ($35 Duratrax thing), and THAT was NEW!

ever since goin to a starter box, i wont go back, EVER. cons=lugging around a battery, but big deal:P

To me, pull-start is more convenient.

what i did is a waitend till me pull start broke then i took all the stuff out of it and i used it has a back plate:D

RE: WHY?

collector...depends on your definition of convenient.

WAY easier starting with a starter box. pop the truck on there, pop on your glow plug ignitor, and push down:D I've had a few cold-blooded engines that wouldn't start for nothin when hot....a few seconds of crankin wwith the starter box, BAM, she be done:D

RE: WHY?

Ok so first tell me step by step once i remove the pull start from the car than what do i need to take off and put on for the starter box.
I have a power supply for my duratrax ice charger its a 12amp and it plugs into the wall so how do i use the starter box at a racing track with no plug? Thanks guys... sounds alot more comvieniant

What if I get the starter box that uses that batteries from my rc car? cause this one uses batteries i think:

Most of the Nitro stuff I own will usually start with 5 pulls or less.;) Maybe I just have the magic touch...

RC Math...
5 pulls is > 1 bump
repairing a pull starter > carry around starter box battery

i have a truly lazy way.

Pick up car by pullstarter

give it a little shake

car drops, and car starts

easy as cheese

RE: WHY?

Most starter boxes have a plug that connects to a set of jumpers that you can hook up to any 12 volt source(car battery, security system battery...), or you can usually hook up 2 standard stick packs.

I don't think you have to remove your pullstart, unless you are trying to save weight.

avg...i use the old battery outta my motorcycle for that;)

RE: WHY?

I have both a pullstart and a starter box. I would much rather "lug" my starter box around. It is actually no extra burden. The starter box is in my larger box of rc stuff I always bring with me when I go. Just throw it all in the trunk of my car and take off. When I get to my destination, I take out my fold-out char, take out my rc box.. and set myself up. Not having the box with me wouldn't save me a single bit of time.. so might as well bring it. I also like it because I don't have to fish around for the pull start when I have the body on. Its just quicker to have the starter box I think. Plus, I ALWAYS forget to charge my glow starter, which forces me to use the one that connects to my starter box.

i use starter box and will never go back, collector, what if your engine decides to be stubborn that day??? i remeber my street forec pull start, my pointer finger nad middle finger were blistered to hell after a day of running

jkulhanek 10-02-2005 12:56 AM

RE: WHY?

Blisters?? Eat a bag of concrete and harden the F$#% up :)

I do not have any problems with my pullstart, it starts the engine easily even when hot.

I just can't justify spending the extra dosh on something that i don't need.

If you guys are too lazy to tug a little handle half-a-dozen times...that says a lot ...
