Getting an RC10GT...
 

I decided to skip the XTM X-cellerator and get an RC10GT instead, I'm gonna first see if my dads friend still has his for sale and if not I'll just get the Team Kit or Factory Team kit from Tower.

Anyways, I'm wondering what all parts are commonly broke on it so I can go ahead and get some spares, or possibly upgrades.

For upgrades definatly get an MIP clutch, it will save you alot of trouble. The stock GT clutch is absolute garbage, it makes it very hard to tune your motor. It does not even have springs.

I forgot to mention that the rear bulkhead is also a weak point, I would recomend replacing it with an RPM one while you build the kit.

Are you going to race it or bash it? I love RPM stuff. It's strong and flexible. I've never broken anything RPM before.

From what I remember about my GT, the idler gear in the tranny is pretty weak. If I was you, I would run it until I stripped it though. But then replace it with a Robinson Racing hardened idler gear. Locktite everything!!! Since I was mostly a basher, I got the RPM reciever box to protect the reciever from the weather. If you get a kit without an engine, definately get the OS .12 CVR for it.

Yeah get a arms a the rear bulkhead rpm is the best for non race setups. I know they are Strong, because me and my friend were driving and got clipped on the Right front no damage to the arm.

Thanks for the help. So it looks like I'll be buying a new clutch, spare arms, and a new bulkhead. What about the rear A-arm mounts? They always seem to give me problems on my cars.

My Dads freind still has the GT for sale (for $125) so I'm gonna check it out tommorow and if it looks good I'll deffinately buy it. Not sure what all it comes with, I assume it is just a rolling chassis with body, I think it may also come with an engine, we'll see.

Will post back with pics and more info on it tommorow, if I get it that is.

yeh, GTracer said get the rear A arms, but i would get the mip 4 in 1 clutch even if u get your dads friends one, coz the only thing holding me from getting a gt is the clutch, but now im thinking on a losi or a MST-1 coz they are the most popular here in OZ.

The must haves for racing or Bashing:
MIP clutch and RPM rx box.

If racing, use the stock a-arms. The RPM ones flex too much and give inconsistent handling. I have a set of RPM arms still in the original bag for when I turn it into a Basher.

Plus I did the T4 front and rear mod. Makes a difference!!

The Mugen MST-1 is a sweet truck! I've been considering getting one since they are $140 for a kit. I drove just last weekend and I was very impressed.

I ended up not getting his GT.

He decided he wanted $150 for it, the engine is just the AE .15, and it had a broken A-arm, so I had to pass on it, not what I'm looking for.

Anyways, still planning on getting a GT. I have my eye on a few in the marketplace, and tommorow I'm gonna go to hobby town, so one way or another I will end up getting one [&:]

the AE .15 is a good engine IMO for the GT. It surprised me at how much it power it has when its slightly ported and tuned right. My old GT RTR was a wheelie king. I always wanted the OS .12 CV-R for it, but I never got it.

I'm thinking I made a mistake when I dropped the .18 CV-R in my RC10 GT, or did I make a good decision?

I would have went with the OS .12 instead. The .18 has too much torque and power for my 4x4 stadium truck so I know yours is a handful to control. haha

I bet it is alot of fun though. Especially since you can run as tall of a gear as you want with that kind of power.

I went to hobby town today and found the perfect GT for me, the Team Built version (ARR). It was only $125 (I think it may have been on sale) so I couldn't pass it up.

Basically it's a prebuilt Team kit with the RTR driveshafts and shocks, and a prepainted body.

I'm gonna finish up installing my stuff in it then I'll post a couple pics.

I ended up using a O.S. .15 CV in it, it was either that or an O.S. .18. I figured the .18 would be too much torque for it so I put the .15 in it instead. Either way, I'll eventually end up replacing it with a .12, I just had the .15 laying around and thought I'd give it a try.

I see why yall say to get the MIP clutch, the included one looks pretty crappy. I will deffinately have to get the MIP one next time I order something from tower.

I must say, I'm glad I didn't go with the X-cellerator.

The OS CV's are ok. They are great engines to learn with and try things. Get the experience of a Nitro 2wd truck and then step-up to a more powerful engine.
The cv-r line is much faster. I got a RB mod OS .12 cv-r and I can't punch it. It will do wheelies! I made that mistake a few weekends ago. Coming on to the back strait and I got antsy and punched and it wheelies half way down the strait till I let off the throttle.

J_Bone, what is the RB mod on a OS .12 CV-R that you are talking about? I've never heard of that before.

So why did you go with the .15 CV and not the .12? I personally find a .15 harder tho tune than a .12.

I gave it a few good runs today, the cheap OS .15 CV is actually pretty impressive in it. Top speed is nothing spectacular toping at out around 35+/- (haven't clocked it yet), but the acceleration is insane, wheelies are no problem if you can get enough traction :)

I am having problems with the engine overheating, but I'm running it in pretty thick grass with unsuitable tires so I guess that is to be expected.

Tonight I'm gonna have to order some stuff from tower for it, MIP clutch, different rear tires (probably the Proline dirt works), RPM ballcups, and maybe some other things.
