2 speed rusty

well after a bunch of looking around, i couldnt find anyone that put a 2 speed tranny in a nitro rustler, so im gona do it. im gona use a jato tranny and some other custom parts to make it work. any suggestions let me know, but i hope to have it done in about 3 weeks. just ordered some parts yesterday to start.

if u dont know enough of this hobby to be able to think of a 3 speed off the top of your head then u dont yet have the knowledge to complete this conversion, u will need to go custom chassis for it to work and that wont happen.

just because i dont know every car out there in this hobby doesnt mean i cant put a two speed in my rustler. im just not a loser like you and rc cars is my life. in a few weeks i should have it done and will take pics and prove you wrong

That's the way to win friends, here...Call them losers. And here all this time I thought being nice would help...How dumb am I?!?
Well, I for one, can hardly wait for your conversion to be done, and see the pics. I'm sure you will get lots of feed-back.;)
I'm sure your new-found friend, Dann, will be anxiously awaiting the unveiling as well.
Good luck with all that.:D
Oh, and by the way, now is probably a good time to retire that username, and think of a new one. It only takes a couple of posts like that to tarnish our outlook on giving advice.
I know I will be following your posts, but prob. won't be offering any advice.

you are probably gonna piss alot of people off with that statement. most of the people here are pretty into their hobby, myself included.

aha yep, i never said u were a dumb guy i just said the knowledge is a thing that takes years. i have been in this for 3 , or is that 4 years now? and i do extension mathematics in grade 11 and an engineering course, and i have made my own shocktowrers well and they improved handling like i wanted, and i have custom chassis designs for the rusty, but i have not got the confidence to spend my hard earned cash wasting it on a totally failed design as its just that hard. go for it but i know exactly how i will feel abuot you making accusations like im a loser.yada yada yada. because it wont surprize me at all to never see you here ever again after failing this, not because you are necessarily dumb but because its very hard and you have made huge claims. also watch who you call a loser also, as i feel that i have a certain amount of respect on here.

RE: 2 speed rusty

sorry i came off so offensive. in reply to ScGRacer, i dont see how a savage tranny would work. that thing is huge. like 3 times the size of a jato tranny, and it is also a four wheel drive tranny. the way it is designed i think i would have to have a rear diff and a lot of other parts to make it work. in reply to dan, i have been in the hobby for a while too., i guess im just not as passionate about it. a few years back a had an electric rusty that was modded quite a bit, i know this is on a whole different level, but i can do it. i should get most of the parts i need by the end of the week if i have time to pick them up.

the main reason im doin this build is because i thought it would be cool and different to do. there are many people who talked about putting a 2 speed in a rusty, but no one stepped up to the plate and did it. well im steppin up right now and giving it a shot. im just busy right now between work and college. that is why it will probably take me a few weeks to finish it.

RE: 2 speed rusty

schumacher's menace uses a three speed also. not sure if it would work or not. never really paid attention to the size or design of it, i just know it has it. you might want to look into it further. the menace is a 4wd though so it might not work. might be kinda hard to get a hold of too. i havent seen many places that carry scumacher.

ya same here, i have a good amount of rd racing products aluminum and it is durable as hell. i couldnt find a whole jato tranny in this area and i dont like ebay so i have to order individual pieces of the tranny. i have it all together except for a couple bearings and pins. those parts will be in soon. i thought building the tranny from scratch would be hard, but i got it together in about 30 min. its looking like it will be done by next week. i willl keep you guys posted.

RE: 2 speed rusty

well i got the tranny all together and everything looks like it will fit, now all i have to do is make mounts for he motor and tranny. the motor is almost dead in the middle of the car instead of to the side now so i will have to make all new mounts for it. shold have it all done in a week or two. been busy workin and stuff. i cant wait!

Go too see somebody took the step into real modification and put a two speed tranny in there rustler. I would put one in someday but i dont have a local shop to go too and look at what i will need and someone to help me.

RE: 2 speed rusty

I myself was converting my Rustler to 2-speed last year and when i did some research I found the solution a bolt on solution , I purchased a nitro 4-tec rolling chassis off of e-bay for the conversion and once I go the car I put it together just to see what it would do then i hit some sand at about 60 mph and totalled the car the rearend wasnt salvagable so then i forgot about the whole conversion for a while but heres a link to a guy who built a 2-speed rusty...good luck.

i really dont think you need a local shop to do it. just go on ebay and buy complete jato tranny for like $40. you really dont need much more. take out the motor, throw out all motor and tranny mounts. the hardest part will be makin the motor mounts and get them in the right position, but wont be much of an issue. im gona try to the the mounts done today. for this project you need a dremel. there is no way to do it without one. it takes a little drilling and grinding, but it will work.

My dad got a dremel for christmas...adn i have all the tools in the world out in my garage. I might tackle it soemday after i see if yours turned out.
