STUPID ?/?- can I use starterbox when pull start is still on engine?
 

I have never had a truck that I could use a starter box on and/or I didn't have a starter box at the time.

I have an HPI Nitro MT with an almost brand new Epic 18 with pull start. Can I use a starter box with the pull start still in place, or will I need a blockoff plate for the engine first?

You will need a block off plate.

you should be fine with the pull start on. i use my box all the time with it on

I dont see why your cant...It is the same as the engine running with the pullstart still on the engine.

Well I have a 1/10 stadium truck and two 1/8 buggies all with Pull Starts still attached, oh wait aminute I took the guts out of the pull start on the stadium truck just have the pull start block there now. But use a Starter Box all the time. They sure save your arm a lot of pulling and Cursen.. LOL The starter box I use a cheap 12V. car battery on it as well so have lots of Ummph for them 1/8 big motors to turn over..

I use a bump start with my pull start also. It works fine.

I'm not exactly sure what is meant by a block off plate, but I'm assuming it just takes the spot where the pull starter block/assembly is.

I believe it would be completely alright to use a starter box even with the pull start is on. When the engine is running there is a one way bearing in the pull start assembly that “disengages” the pull start from the rotating engine. If this was not there the engine would just rip the pull start apart. The starter box would be rotating/starting the engine in the same direction as the engine would be running. (obviously) so the pull start would be “disengaged” from the engine while starting. However, if you hook up the starter box with reversed polarity, you will rip the pull start assembly apart. So just make sure the starter wheel is rotating in the proper direction.

Ya I think you should be ok running it with the pullstart on, the one way bearing will be dissengaed so you shouldnt have any problems

it works fine i have a picco with a pullstart and it works fine, but i finally got a nova rossi 12 without a pullstart, damn that motor is fast, but it will work my oicco started first pull so i never bothered bringing my box but it works so you are clear to use a box with no probs, just make shure you spin it the right direction

It will work for any engine that will start and run with a pull start. As previously stated, as long as you start the engine with the starter box wheel spinning in the correct direction it will work.
