engine dirt??
is every engine gonna get a little dirt in it each time you run it?? i mean if if i play in alot of dirt and after an hour i take the filter off and around the inside bottom seal it has dirt their???? is it cause i'm putting the tie around it too tight( which i didn't think i did but who knows) or is this normal or am i still just a paranoid newbie LOL :) it has and indent all around the inside bottom part of the filter about 1/8" up from the very bottom, i didn't really see any dirt higher than that, but below it was alot of dirt, i'm guessing, hoping the indent is where it seals at and below doesn't matter???

I wouldnt know what to tell you howabout you show a pic, but dirt inside the engine isnt good i know because it happend to me i had to buy a new cilender, and piston, and i had to clean out the carb[:@]but my moto is run it until the engine stops[>:]or something breaks so if your engine is still runing you should be good:D

Is the dirt actually getting into the engine? If it is its going to kill your engine REALLY fast. Where is the dirt? is it in the carb or in the airfilter?

i didn't see any in the carb part, just on the part of the air filter that fits over the carb, its between those two parts

Well if it is just on the outside of the carb between the neck of the airfilter and the outside of the carb neck it should be fine. I too find a little bit of dirt in there. If it starts to get into the carb then theres something wrong.

If any dirt is getting in to the engine this is BAD! Does not take much to hurt the engine!

yea im new to the forums. been in RC for a long time. dont get any dirt in your motor and keep the airfilter clean. clean it every 5-10 runs or when it gets realy dirty.:D

I agree very important to keep the air filter clean. I am a frantic about keeping my air filter clean as it has a lot to do with engine life. |

I know this is off topic but do you know how they market Mountain Dew in Canada. This is a picture from when I road my motorcycle form Georgia to Alaska last year. I am a Dew drinker as well.

well i got her back out today, and she stills seems like she's going strong :D thank goodness LOL i've only got a gallon and a quart burned through it so far. this is my first nitro so i'm just worried about every little thing i guess. all i want is for this engine to last the rest of the warm weather LOL then when it gets closer to spring if i've been to ruff on it and it has lost all of its compression i'll order a new one. i didn't really realize how sensitive these motors where till after i done ordered mine and was reading a little more in depth about it. :eek:
also i ordered a bigger set of back tires for my jato, because the ones that came on it wore out after about 2 days [:@] and so i've had to adjust it to shift into 2nd gear, but i think i have it shifting to soon now??? if it shifts too soon will it cut down on its top speed??? because it seems like it boggs down after it shifts to 2nd in grass, or is it just because its in grass???and thanks for all of yalls help :D;) |

how do i check the piston and sleeve on a jato?? can i just take the cooling head off, or do i have to remove the whole engine?

You can remove the cooling head. Smear some grease around the bottom of the air filter cylinder (where the filter foam sits). That way, when you install the foam filter you will have the tightest seal possible.

okay i took the cooling head off ( wow them screws where so tight, i put loctight on them when i put the cooling head back on, is that right??) and i couldn't see the side of the piston but i could see the side of the sleeve when i had the piston at the bottom and i didn't see any grooves or such dug in the side of it?? so i guessing that is a good sign??? what had the screws so tight? was it loctight on them or just from all the heat???
and one more question. when i have the glow plug in, i feel a pinch when the piston goes up and then a easy spot and then a pinch as the piston goes back down, when the glow plug is out, i don't feel any kind of pinch till the piston goes back down ( which of course its a very slight pinch) but everything i read says i'm suppose to feel the pinch at the very top, so why is my pinch when its started going back down about an 1/8" ? which this is how its always been since i have learned to turn the flywheel LOL. its not something that has just started |

if their not visible then why does everybody say check piston and sleeve???? so basically as long as you have compression don't worry about it?

k lol thanks for your help ;) just one more crazy question, as the engine gets more runtime on it, it slowly suppose to loose compression right? i've read engines being worn from 1/2 gallon making it all the way to 12 or more gallons. so my main question is as it looses compression over time will you notice a decrease in overall power, or will it one day just not stay running when warm and the flywheel be really easy to spin? and if it does decrease in power the whole time, will it still get up and go till the horrible day that its shot??
