1st glow plug experience

I know how lame this sounds but I just had my first glow plug burn out. I haven't ever had one go while I was driving finally just got my rustypede running good an POW!! dead plug. Oh well stuff happens.

In case your wondering it is a stampede that has rustler shock mounts and stuff it actually sits about the same as a true rustler. Has a 2.5r pl2 radio rpm a-arms and a bunch of alum. on the way hehe.

Did it go dead or burn out the coil where the coil is gone? Most times when the coil burns out it is do to running to lean. I normally get at least a couple of gallons out of mine or more.

Yeah my current glow plug is going on 2 gallons right now and still works fine. I usually change my glow plug out because I want to rather then I need to.

46u hit it on the head. Proper tuning is the key to plug longevity. Running lean will typically mash the coil up into the plug or destroy it.

Also, FYI, colder plugs have thicker coils and tend to last longer (while making more power).

Hmmm... I have to ask, how does going to a colder plug make more power? All it does is retard the timing. Now if someone is suffering from detonation and they go to a colder plug, then of course they will have more power. Or at least the power they should have had in the first place. Just curious!

I would also like to know how a cold plug add's power. As rctruckracer has said a cold plug just retards the igntion timming. I'll agree that it does last longer thena hot plug or a medium plug but it doesnt offer you any more power then another plug.

I geuss I should have said it just died. No it wasn't to lean. Had the same plug in since break in had about 1/2 gal. on it. best of all it was the plug that cme on the 2.5. I put a new one in and she fired right up.

to think that I was going to trade it for an electric, I would have been kicking myself.
