RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
ORIGINAL: embesh Ok getting this firestorm ready to go. Couple things I notice. The a-arms on the firestorm have play. Can can you do anything to tighten that up? Maybe a bigger pin? I dont like that at all. Also that play at the tops of the shocks. I guess thats ok. Guess thats the way rtr trucks come. (Little Flimsy) Also, whats up with the red o rings in the rear dogbones. They are just squeezed in there? Mine fell out just sitting there. Havent even run it yet. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Junville - yeah, it sucks. We were teased with decent weather for a few days and now its -15C. Its funny how a few good days at the end of feb make people forget that March is usually the worst winter month. Until then, I clean, build and wait.....

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
So is the firestorm a good truck just to play in the back yard with mabye hit a few tracks?Im failry new to nitro.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
My only other stadium truck is a 10 year old Losi GTX. It is in mint conditition. Ill keep it that way cause there discontinued and no more parts. Anyhow, Right out of a sealed box, yes this firestorm (I have), has play in front and back arms. My Losi has 0 play. ( Graphite arms) And yes at the top shock bolts, I can twist the shocks back and forth. Play. Im sure its supposed to be like that. Just looking to see what others have done with there trucks. I would feel better if I could get the play out of the arms. Local shop said the composite upgrades take it out. Anyone know if thats true?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
The twist at the top of the shocks is because they are mounted on ball joints, it is supposed to be there. A little wiggle in the a arms is normal. The O-rings are set in place but should be held in by the dogbones.
Kawaboy - The FS is a great truck, especially if you are new to nitro. Its easy to tune and there is a good base of knowledge on it in this forum, I suggest reading the manual carefully from cover to cover and going through the forum - you will see the kinds of issues that come up repeated throughout the 150 pages. It was my first truck which was great to learn on and I keep it among my more 'senior' trucks still and its still my favorite. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
So I bashed around with my Futaba 3305 servo, and now my steering is broken haha. The servo moves, but the wheels only move like 3 deg left to right. I peeked inside and it looks like the arm thing that the servo hooks up to is broken :( I think I saw a crack that opened up when I would turn the steering. I think this is the "servo saver" but I am not sure. So I ordered a new "servo saver" set... so, we'll see!

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Would this engine perform better than the OS 18 CV?
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/32512 RB Concept C12 3 port I think the only change would be the slide to rotary carb. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
good lord this weather is killing me.I want to run my storm.any one else got the jitters about this bad weather keeping you from running your storm?
lets all pray to the sun gods lol |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Does anyone know if this 2-speed will fit the firestorm? (hopefully it will!!)
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBTB6&P=7 I really want a 2-speed for more top-end without sacrificing bottomend. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
That transmission is for the RS4 and can be adapted easily to the MT2 but for the FS it would be a custom fit. Somewhere in this thread somebody put a two speed in and I think it was borrowed from the RS4. There isn't a lot of space for it...
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
So do you think it would be worth it trying to fit it on the storm?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Which tires would be best for mostly onroad but would still grip if I ran out in the grass, and not get torn up in no time at all? I've torn through two pairs of the Pro-Line Snake Eyes because that's the main thing the hobby shop carries. Thinking about just getting a set of street tires but then it would suck out in the grass.
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
That 2-speed wouldn't likely be worth it, its exposed and can be subject to debris etc.. and even HPI doesn't recommend it for the MT2. The best solution is likely a sealed 2-speed transmission to replace the entire transmission of the FS - you will have more room to work with than trying to add a 2-speed to go in tandem to the one speed that is already there.
I use roadrage II tires for the street but they are gargabe on grass and I normally use a different off road setup. Gladiators have a good reputation for wear being good on a wide range of surfaces. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Will the savage 2 speed be able to replace the entire transmition or is it too big?
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
Oh yes, way too big.
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
J,
I run Yokohama Geolanders the same tires that come stock on the MT2, they work great in the grass and on road.. Just my 2.. |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
So yesterday was warm enough to drive and I was home from work at 3 but I didn't have my glow ignitor or hump pack charged. Thinking ahead I picked up some fuel (25% sidewinder) to get ready for the weekend which was looking okay. This morning I quickly went to get groceries - it was just warm enough and dry outside. Then it started to pour when I got home.
Looks like a good day to get my tax return in.... |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
i heared from somewhere in this forum that the geolander tires have some problem fitting in. I know it fits with the hex but i think someone mentioned that either the turnbuckles get in the way or some sort.. I am also thinking of putting these tires on my FS but just want to resolve this issue first. Any info would be greatly appreaciated.
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
I put my geolanders from my MT2 onto my FS no problem. I don't know why people said they had problems, they fit on a standard 2.2 14mm hex rim and aren't extra wide or anything to interfere with the steering.
Rain rain, go away..... |
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
No Problems at all, the Geolanders fit just fine and are a good all around tire..
|
RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
