Got my Firestorm a couple weeks ago and already ran about 1/2 gallon of fuel through it. So far I like it, it runs like a champ. I read through the first 230ish pages of this thread so far.
Also I was wondering if anyone knew if anyone made the lower and upper chassis braces that Newera used to make?

nitro-rob 03-02-2016 09:35 PM

I used to have one. A shame Newera isn't around anymore. I am pretty sure there isn't a cage out there for the storm. I've been thinking of picking a roller up if one was available at the right price. Enjoy your storm!

I saw you used to post quite often in this thread, your Storm was pretty cool looking.
Yeah a lot of the links I found for products were dead links discontinued products or the places were no longer in business.
So far I have found an upper brace from Integy but I have heard mixed things about the quality of their aluminum. They also make a lower bulkhead out of aluminum but idk if I want to tempt that at $32.00 + shipping.
This was my first nitro rc and it has been a different experience over electric that is for sure.
I do know my next rc purchase I am going big. 1/5th scale gas.

I did a not of unnecessary stuff while I was figuring out that most of it didn't matter. A lot of bling didn't really do anywhere but it was a lot of fun and the truck got heavy. If I pick up another it would have good electronics, tires, shocks and engine and that is it. Most of the aftermarket available, as you have noted with integy, is on the weak side and not great unless you get the HPI stuff which is expensive but primo quality. Chassis are built so well these days. The RPM arms were fantastic and worthwhile.

My chassis was the first thing that broke.

update on the condition of mine.
i have been adding some new parts and replacing some things such as hub bearings as they were none existant and adding a few new parts. but i am going to get that integy lower brace and upper brace as the previous owner of mine had driven a wood screw through the current one to hold it on and only made it weaker XD and got a new radio and reciever :)

How do you like the on board glow ignitor?

mystique melon 03-03-2016 02:01 PM

i think it is great as im not trying to hold a radio, roto start and glow ignitor at the same time. with it i can just press a button on the radio and stick in the roto starter and away it goes.
but i will say that at first i was having trouble as i didnt research it and was wondering why my glow plug wasnt working with it. but i now know it becasue it was a higher voltage plug so i just swapped them and it works great now. but i found out that other people had many problems with it and hobbyking made a version 2 so i wish i had got that just to be sure

slick2500 03-03-2016 03:23 PM

I've been contemplating making my own.

well I don't seem to be having much luck with my firestorm. running sweet and going like hell in the night. but usually when it cuts out is fades out this time it went thud. after aking apart I found that the piston was missing pieces and the conrod had snapped in two :( meaning I need a whole new engine.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2152330
but looking through past posts I did not seem to find a big block that was a direct fit. if anyone knows of one I would be greatfull as I need to get a new one but I would like to get a upgrade if possible. :)

and good luck with the homemade glow ignitor.

slick2500 04-14-2016 08:09 PM

Was bashing through the empty lot next door, hit a dip and caught a couple feet of air, then after the landing the truck started clicking :(
Stripped the idler gear and the diff gear as well.

damn. i haven't seen it do that yet 8|. that was just from landing a jump?

Yeah not even a big jump either, it only came about 2 off the ground.
And a few more questions.
Is there an easy way to get to the low speed needle? I have been using a bent jewelers screwdriver for adjusting it.
I accidently bought a set of front Traxxas Jato Anacondas, because they were only $13 premounted bnib. Is it possible to switch the front over to use bearing hub wheels? If not I'll probably just use them when I convert my P2ede to a Rusty.

mystique melon 04-19-2016 12:02 AM

no as i am having troubles reaching the low speed needle but i just use a thin screwdriver that can bend easily to reach it. but once its set it shouldnt need adjusting. and for the wheels i don't know.

Mine did almost the same thing. Just snapped off on the opposite end.

Ouch, don't know whats going on there other than its a fluke. Do you do a lot of full throttle for prolonged time? How careful are you tuning?

Yeah and lots and lots of doughnuts. And I am pretty sure my LSN was too rich even after turning it in almost 2 full turns, which in itself was a giant pain in the ass. What was HPI thinking putting the LSN there in the first place?
I cannot get the sleeve out of the crankcase so I'm just gonna order a new crankcase and sleeve and piston off Dollar Hobbyz. Gonna cost me about $60 or so with shipping and some new exhaust gaskets.

nitro-rob 05-23-2016 07:02 PM

I don't think they put it there, they just wedged another company's engine in it and that is where it landed. Got your parts ordered yet?

Nope, haven't really felt like dealing with it right now.

MastuhWaffles 05-31-2016 05:01 PM

Is it worth buying one of these? I have a XXX-NT already but I'm really enjoying the stadium trucks.

slick2500 05-31-2016 05:16 PM

For the price it's not too bad. Not much aftermarket parts for it

nitro-rob 06-01-2016 04:41 PM

The XXX-NT is a race bred truck but its a bit dated compared to the storm (which is 8 years old now too actually but still younger). The handling of the XXX-NT is likely better, and the storm is a basher bred truck but pretty durable. Many e-firestorm mods will work, but Slick is right, there isn't as much as many would like, and its much less than was available five or six years ago.

dwblue00 06-28-2016 09:40 AM

Hello all! I just got done restoring/upgrading a Firestorm 10t. I picked it up used and the original owner beat it something fierce. The engine does run which was a plus. But I'm looking at changing the engine. I'll see if I can post a pic of it.

nitro-rob 06-28-2016 08:02 PM

Congratulations, enjoy the truck. The OS .18 engines are great upgrades, I don't know what other options are out there anymore. Consider the crankshaft choice and if it will mount well. Looking forward to the picture.

Thanks Nitro-Rob. I do have a question...(and this may have been asked 1000 times before) what's a good throttle brake servo? Also I can get my hands on a brand new OS .18 tz engine but it has a standard crank, not the SG style crank. I know there's a special clutch nut to adapt. I've never seen this done can you help explain this? Thanks!
