RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

Hey guys, Firestorm is great love it!! quick question though. I have made several adjustments to try and get the idle up. however, it keeps dieing out on me. It will not stay running when it is sitting still. Not sure if i am adjusting the wrong screw or what, but nothing is working. Not complaining to much, i run it in a parking lot and i just keep it moving. every time i hit the breaks though to lock it up for a donut, it stalls. If anyone has some pointers let me know, appreciate the help again!!

Your idle screw is foward and to the right of the HSN. It's small. It might be hidden by the fuel line......

I also snapped my Firestorm's Bulkhead in half, on her 2nd day out! Like yourself, having a hard time finding this part to replace.. Also like yourself, I had to fabricate something myself, or do without my new baby for the past 1.5 months!

Unlike yours, my fix is made from Fiberglass (Auto-body repair kit, $14.00 CAD). I Krazy-Glued the pieces together, then wrapped the Resin-drenched fiber around, let dry, then used my Dremel to shape it and avoid any "rub" areas with the steering. As a note: Auto-body Fiber Glass is extremely strong, and can be made to resemble Carbon Fiber! Something to look into anyway...

Check it:

~WAYS TO FIND OUT IF AN RC IS 2 SPEED~

1. Look for it (2 pinions, 2 spur gears)
2. Listen for it (the gear change sounds like a normal car)
3. And if it tells u in the name tht its 2 speed it generally should be...

hi all again,

you were so helpful last time, i'm back for more. lol

o.k i'm on about my 5-6 tank and still struggling to set the car up right. when i ran it yesterday, i was running sweet it cut out once when i gave it a little too much throttle, i have changed the setting on the idle and hsn, i'm getting smoke so i presume its.ok, but then for todays run it was cutting out before i could get to the transmitter to rev a little, so again i've played with the hsn and idle, as i told by you guys last time, it is getting faster/better every tank but the cutting out is bugging me. i had it running today with break working but at neutral the car was creeping forward.

would you advise i go to my lhs to get them to set it up?

or does anyone here have a pic of the settings they use?, i realise there will be differences to all setup's fuel etc, but i'm just wondering if i'm miles out or not.

sorry for the ques, but im a complete newbie (as you can tell)
as always i'm greatful for any help/advice

cheers

Ok first thing is first you need to set up your engines idle. There should be a 1mm gap between the carb inlet.
When you fire the engine up, keep the glow plug ignitor on the glowplug for a while. Give the engine acouple of small revs (with the glowplug ignitor still on the glowplug). This will allow the engine to get up to running temp.
Once the engine is up to running temp, run the car for about 5 laps nice and easy. Then start tuning. I usually start with the HSN first. Once i get plenty of blue smoke at full throttle and a good top speed then i start with the LSN untill i get a good, quick, responsive start.

Hope this helped
If you really are stuck, take it down your LHS im sure they would set it up for you, no problem.

thanks for that [8D]

i've been tinkering again since and its not as bad now, tho it may be idleing fast as tbh i dont what a nitro is suppose to idle like with this being my first one, but so far i'm loving this truck, and it does seem to get better engine wise every tank.

thanks for your help, this forum is great! [8D]
cheers

Hey New, nitros sound like they are idling high. Adjust your idle screw until the truck starts to move foward then back off a little bit. When adjusting your HSN you only have to adjust it about 1/8 to 1/16 of a turn. These motors are sensitative to the adjustments. When cold mine starts right up and idles great but after running it and refueling I have to hit the throttle a couple of times to keep it running. I adjusted the idle up a little more. The truck wants to move a little bit but it's easier to start. You might also want to try a new glow plug. Take your time and try not to get too frustrated with it and you'll get it........

Add me to the owner's registry :D I bought a Firestorm 2nd hand NIB, meaning the guy was planning on running it but never did which is good and bad. As he has taken the servos out but remounted them to sell it, I have been trying to adjust the carby opening on idle, full throttle and brake but my linkage doesn't quite look like the one in the manual. Can anyone take a 'realtime' picture for me of the throttle linkage at idle, full throttle and brake ?

I thinked that somebody would wonder that :D
All started when i noticed that stock tires do not like tarmac. I wanted tarmac tires, but in shop was only 1 pair of those tires -> i bought cheap tires to back. Now when i have tested those, this setup work quite well (for bashing). Also when my 5 year old son is driving i put stock front tires and those other for back.
I think i need to replace stock tires soon, does anyone have good suggestions for tire setup ?

I'm quite dissapointed to quality of "chrome" rims, the paint is falling off easily -> no more bling bling rims to me...

Where i'm living there is no track, but we are building one ;)

+1 here for any tarmac tyre/wheel recommendations for the FS.
