I sealed the motor when I first got it. Just make sure your using high quality fuel, and cleaning the filter after every couple of tanks. Also don't let air in you fuel jug.

For sand bashing, All you really need to do is make sure you have a clean, oiled air filter. Then just drive your stuck normally. Then after you are done. Do a REALLY good clean up job on your truck :)

As for the zip ties, use them. They are great incase you ever roll over or land upside down from a jump gone bad. :(

Does anyone know if a Futaba S3004 Servo would be better than the stock SF-1?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVW07

I have a few of these already. I couldn't find any stats for the SF-1.

Thanks

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

They are just a few oz. stronger. The sf-1 is fine fore throttle/brake. I have a hitec 645 for my steering, just about the best bang for buck.

Is it worth switching the 3004 for the SF-1? I don't know what the specs are for the SF-1?

With my Rush I have found out if you set the slipper clutch properly I do not have much problem with the plastic gear in the transmission.

Has anyone here found a bigger fuel tank that fits?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

guys i have a new problem, finally got some time to tune it today. from flush i could only turn about 2/8 before the car tells me not to lean it anymore. the car is a lot more responsive but there is still a lot of smoke giving the impression that it is still very rich. if i lean anymore it just stalls - very strange!

then after 2-3 tanks of fantastic fun, out of a couple of seconds every so often it doesnt respond to the full throttle. its like the car want to stall but after a few sec it goes back to normal. i am sure the car is running rich, is it because its too rich, the engine had to spit fuel out before it can continue?

but then it goes back to my first problem, its so rich but i cannot lean it anymore.

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

Which adjuster are you playing with right now? High or Low speed?
It sounds to me like your High Spd is too Lean and Low Spd, too Rich. Making you think that that it's too rich all together.

tse_adam 12-03-2007 04:25 PM

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

just high, nothing else has been touched

experimental_pilot 12-03-2007 04:37 PM

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

Richen the High Speed and see if that fixes your Full-throttle problem.
Then Lean the Low Speed needle.

When you are able to go full throttle, do you still have a lot of smoke at top speed?
How is it idling?

These should help you too.

yea a lot of smoke all the time and it idles perfectly, went through 3 tanks on 2/8 lean on hsn without full throttle problem. then it slowly develops this hesitancy at full throttle but it corrects itself after a couple of seconds. the car is back on the shelf until next week i am afraid, i will give what you said a try even though i am a bit unsure whether i should touch the lsn for a beginner like me.

experimental_pilot 12-03-2007 04:54 PM

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

I'm 99% sure, thats what you need to do. Don't be afraid to use the LSN. Lean it a bit and do the Pinch test.
You should notice the smoke decrease and the acceleration improve.

i want to ask whats the factory settings for all the needles on the firestorms?

mine didnt come with original settings and i sort of found my own. set flush for lsn and 3 and a half turns clockwise from tight for hsn. or is it just 3 turns from tight for hsn??

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-

I swapped-out my front tower mount and brace for the HPI alum hop-up pieces. However, it appears the screws and the hinge pins are all bottoming out just before the brace sits flush on the front of the mount. It is very close, probably withing one turn or so of the screws. This happen to anyone else? For now I put the stock metal brace in between the two hop-up pieces so there will not be any gaps. I wonder if HPI intended us to coninue to use the original brace with the hop-up brace (basically just swapping out the plastic retainer), or if the hop up is meant to replace both the original brace and plastic retainer. I would assume the latter though that isn't working out for me. (I actually have an E-Firestorm but the front suspension is supposed to be identical to the Nitro).

Both HSN and LSN are to be set Flush.

Im getting my first nitro car for christmas, and it happens to be a firestorm. It looks like an awesome car, but, I was wondering if there is anything i should upgrade to and watch out for.

I would just start out getting a fuel filter and a 5 cell hump pack. From there just save your money for spare parts. Its a tough truck but so far I smashed the botttom of the pull starter and smashed the battery on off switch, watch out for big rocks!;)
